My Pyxie is about 5 or 6 months old and is about 4 5 inches long. His eating has slowed to every few days, is this normal? Also, how log does it take for them to reach 6 - 7 inches? Does anyone have a male Adspersus who is kind of small when full grown? Thank you for the answers![]()
Yes at that size they should only be eating every few days as they mature, when they reach 5 or 6 months old it could take several months for them to grow another inch. It's possible, his growth may be stunted or he just has genes passed down to him that made him not grow above average. What's his staple diet? Exercising great husbandry and varied diet helps with growth factors.
Most male pyxies will reach 6" by the first year but a few slower maturing males might take a bit longer. Your frog is still young so I wouldn't worry about any stunted growth. Don't know where you're located in the US but here the days are getting shorter and cooler so it's normal for most animals to slow down a bit on feeding. One thing we have to remember is these frogs don't have to eat everyday, it's just that most hobbyists just choose to do so.
At the age of 6 months you could get away with not feeding them for 2-3 days as for the growth rate. It depands on the individual frog. I have two male pixies eating the same thing same day and one is one and a half inch longer.
