    Default Water

Should I be using products to neutralise the tap water, or is tap water ok to use in a water bowl. I've heard mixed views and people saying they have kept red eyes using just tap water with no trouble before.

    Thanks.

I use tap water for my frogs, but I usually let the water sit out uncovered for a day or two before giving it to them. This allows any harmful materials to evaporate and thus makes it more frog safe.

Generally, you do want to treat the tap water. There's a lot of junk in our water that makes in bad for frogs, even in countries with super "clean" water, like Sweden. Sure, it's "clean" for us, but it's not clean in terms of chemicals and things like that. I personally think it's a no-brainer. If it CAN be dangerous to not treat the water, then just treat the water, nothing smart about taking the risk. There are different kinds of conditioners, just pick one. I know many people that have used Zoomeds with great success.

There's a great sticky topic on this very subject with a lot of great information. Be sure to check it out:

*Thanks. I'll buy some tap water treatment asap. Can I also ask what's the best way to remove limescale / salt that has been left by evaporated tap water on the glass... It's been troubling me for ages when cleaning... I have tried vinegar mixed with water and given it a real scrub... But I can never get rid of all of it :-S ... Will be distiller water spraying now as I didn't know it wouldn't leave a deposit on the glass.*

A razor blade does wonders for cleaning glass. You can usually find ones made for this purpose in the paint section of hardware stores. Just be sure not to cut into the silicone holding your tank together.

Martin to tell you the truth, tap water is not even good for us. The residue that ends up in my tub and sink s disgusting. I have to clean it every 2 days.

Lemon is actually suprisingly good at removing mineral deposits. Just cut a lemon in half and give the wall a good rubbing with it. Just be sure to wite it thouroghly, so there's no lemon left afterwards.
