So, I was having the same problem. My tank is small so I have all water with little rock islands. The crickets kept dying almost as soon as they jumped into the water. So, I got a little 2.5 gallon tank from Petsmart. Comes with it's own lid. Only $14. I just put my two in there with moist river rocks misted in their treated water, and then drop gut loaded crickets into the tank. Because there is nothing other than a few river rocks, the crickets jump around and the FBT see them instantly. After they've eaten their fair share (about 4-5 little ones), I just return them to their home tank. The uneaten crickets aren't wounded or drowned or anything and can go right back into the feeder bucket. It has reduced waste so much, kept their home tank cleaner, and I can ensure they eat. Just a suggestion. Has worked for me a long time. Good luck.
