2 of my 3 fbt were dead when I got home :'(

I took a sample of water and the dead froggies into Petsmart where they came from and they said that the nitrates were off the charts. I came home and totally cleaned the tank, rinced and rinced the gravel, stones, filter etc. I had been doing quarter water changes every week and I had only had them 18 days what did I do wrong? Is the third likely to die? Yesterday they were barking at me.

Poor babies, I don't know what went wrong. I would NOT introduce any new toads at this point just keep a close eye on the survivor. Sorry

Sounds like either a chemical poisoning (nitrates are not to blame - we're not talking about fish here) or perhaps a disease such as a strain of Ranavirus. Sorry for your loss.

Definetly not chemical posioning all I use at my house is vinegar and hot water and a steam cleaner because of the birds we have nothing at all else in the house. It was the first 2 that we got at petsmart that died the third we got a week later at a reptile store. How long should we wait before we get him a friend? Though right now I dont want another one at all, he will be lonely on his own. I really loved the little guys I burried them in the rose garden.

When you feed him make sure that hes eating and be sure to give food a light dusting of
vitamins/calsium supp. How much and what is he eating?
Weekly water changes should be okay, make sure it is declorinated. I use a filter on a timer
so that water changes are much less frequent.

I have a filter on all the time its a reptile one repto? Crickets every other day free range fed though I start to feel sorry for them after the 4th rescue from the water. Dusted with vitamines every other feeding. The tanks been scrubbed, the test strips say everythings perfect, the filter was changed, and he is eating just fine and active. Thinking that maybe a different set up would be easier on the crickets maybe.
