Default DAMN YOU TOAD! Do your job!

So I finally cornered this damned spider and scooped it up with a cup, hoping my fat American Toad would eat it.

She says NOTHX. Knew I should have dropped it into the bullfrog tank. Oh well, maybe the smaller toad will eat it. The smaller one hides whenever I come within like 15 feet.

Most girls don't like roaches either, but mine all do. In fact, the biggest toad and bullfrog will plop down in the feed bowl and finish them off (squishing some in the process, because well FAT!)

Besides if I were a toad and I knew that my owner had some yummy insects stored somewhere who would eat such a disgusting looking thing haha.
Atleast the toad's not running away, last night I put a couple moths in with my frogs...one flew at Jabba and hit her in the face so she ran away and cowered under some bark 12 hours on and she still hasn't come out.

you need a praying mantis if you want something to nibble on rogue spiders. my friend feeds all his black widows to his mantis

i used to feed out of a reflective dish; it was great: cheap and smooth sided. but my toad went after the reflection of a bug so now it's a water bowl. we pretend it never happened.

Ceramic dishes with steep sides work just as well and I find most bugs have a hard time getting out of them.

I tried a few different dishes that worked fine (really, i tried almost every dish i could find in the house and while out shopping), until I found a salsa bowl hanging in an aisle of grocery store. It's perfect!! Probably because he's little and so is his food. It has 2 levels, one for him to put his little hands on when he leans in and one for the bugs to crawl around in. Nobody gets out except for phoenix worms if any moisture gets into bowl. Or crickets who hop well. Once he burrowed half underneath bowl and a mean cricket hopped out and bounced off his head. We don't keep crickets anymore.

I use ceramic mini tart dishes for my food bowls. Even the crickets usually stay in even though they could jump out. I also usually put a big chunk of carrot in the bowl with the feeders to keep them in one place. The sides of the bowl are a about an inch tall so my toads don't notice the bugs unless they happen to peek in. So I bury it in the soil so it is level with the ground. They find the food much easier that way.

totally agree, i bury mine level with the soil too. he'll notice even if i didn't, but this way he doesn't have to lean in so much. i like that the salsa bowl is large enough to accommodate him growing. where do you get the tart bowls? i'm always looking for and collecting things that can be used as food bowls. whether for him, or for his bugs.

I got them at the Dollar Tree. They have round ones and square ones and rectangular ones. The store I go to has white ones, blue ones or pink ones. I tend to get blue for boys and pink for girls. They make good water bowls for snakes too lol.

Edit to say I buy all sorts of things from the Dollar Tree to use for my animals. I use a lot of their boxes baskets and pots as hides for my animals. I am careful not to get anything that might harm the animal though. Such as the fake vines I've used in my snakes cages before. I had to go through and make sure no wires were sticking out or no sharp edges. I also had to hot glue some of the leaves to make sure they didn't fall off.
Last Easter they had a lot of baskets and I bought some plastic ones to use as hides for my snakes. They are now the only hides the snakes will use!

Yea that spider is massive. ewww i would have flushed it. actually i would have called dad and he would have squished it and flush it. No offense to spider lovers...i like turantulas...but thats it. and anything smaller can get into places not supposed to be like the bed or my shower..... Don't like the ones that jump i think they are cool but they purposely jump at your face. Then theres a really ugly one like round and fat that likes aspen trees and bushes to live. eww.

    I like your toad.

My bf caught a spider for me at work and brought it home in empty lidded coffee cup. It wasn't actually for me, (i would've killed him), it was for my toad. But when I put the jerk in tank, it was too fast. I was sure it'd climb out and into my house. So i squished him or flushed, I don't recall, but i murdered him. Spiders suck. I gave my toad one that was in my bathroom terrorizing me as I showered and he ate it and winked at me with a leg hanging out of his mouth. Great guy. And yeah, I agree, Duriel's toad is awesome looking.

*not ALL spiders suck, but the ones that get in your face or watch you shower, making you afraid to turn your back on it are just awful. most i just leave alone if they don't bother me. and tarantulas actually look kinda cute.
