He was lathargic and started losing weight. After 10 days I took him to the vet and was given dewormer and antibiotics to be given once a week for 4 weeks. I was also given a whole food vitamine supplement and a can of soft food which was cat/dog food for malnourished animals. I force fed him for 2 months. After a month I tried to increase his weight I fed him 2 pinkies a week for 4 weeks while also force feeding him crickets/wax worms/night crawlers. Just before he started eating again I stopped giving the pinkys and force fed him a cricket and a Hornworm. The next night he started eating on his own. It was tough but I pulleds him through.
Wow, that's a good rescue story. All the hard worked payed off, huh? You can now enjoy him again being healthy... Good for you.

Yeah it was hard for me. I was really upset when he got sick. I always connect with animals and I don't just see them as a dog or just a frog. They are family. It was hard. I also gave him his normal vitamins and calcium dust with water in a farely large dose once a week and also Flukers Reptiaide. I guess I must have done something right. I wish I knew what made him sick though.

Could of been a number of things: temperatures too cold or too hot, kidney disease, constipation or colon impaction, chemical abnormalities, vitamin and mineral deficiencies (most commonly Calcium and Vit. D-deficiency causing Metabolic bone disease), too much dietary fat (feeding a mice only diet instead of insects) cancers, parasites, toxins and more.

It definitely wasN't metabolic bone disease. The vet was impressed with his jaw strength. I always dust his food with calcium dust that contains D3. His temps hadn't changed from how I always kept him. I never gave him mice until after he got sick. The only reason I gave them to him was to put weight back on him. All animals like people eventually get sick in some way. I just couldn't figure it out. the vet wasn't sure either. He didn't have worms. I guess I'll never know. He could have caught a bug or maybe he had some kind of deficiency. Before he got sick he wouldn't eat anything but crickets. I mean NOTHING. I tried mealies/night crawlers. He wouldn't touch them. Now he eats night crawlers/crickets/hornworms, he LOVES hornworms. He wouldn't take food from forceps either until after he recovered and I offered him a hornworm from them. Now he will. Now I'm prepared if I have to deal with one of them getting ill.

I went on a trip to petco today. I learned that it's ok to keep firebelllie toads with barking, green, and whites frogs. Thats what they had on display. The staff told me its ok to keep them together cause the water filter cleans the toxins from the FBT and all the frogs are safe. The frogs were all the same size. I'm going crazy with stupidity. How tru is that guys?

Not safe. Toxic is toxic with or with out a filter. They don't know what they're talking about. The filter doesnt clean direct contact frog to toad
