Hey Autumn we have some wood frogs here in NY. You have a better chance finding a $100 bill than a woody tho.lol They also breed in February-April here, witch is very cold. I heard they are very hard to find . Is that tru.

Lol . Yeah, Woodies will breed even when there is snow still on the ground or ice in the pond. It’s actually quite amazing how these frogs can handle these conditions for egg laying. Anyways to answer your question…..it really depends on where and when you are looking for them. Woodies are found in the open woods, near ponds, or in areas that aren’t highly populated. It is relatively easy to find a Wood frog during their breeding season because you can hear them calling and can locate them easier. To find them outside of the breeding season is somewhat harder. They usually travel up to 3 km from their breeding sites and hide under logs or in cool, shady, grassy areas. During the fall is when it’s very hard to find them. They go into the pre-hibernation stage and bury themselves under the fresh leaf litter. I tried to find some Woodies last year during the fall and there wasn’t a single frog in sight. It’s like they completely vanished into thin air lol!
