    Default A Close Call

I had a really close call tonight. I have been working on my new tank, and so I pulled my old one down (with the frogs in it) and put it on the dining room table while I put my new tank together on the cabinet I keep the frogs on. My husband was walking past and said, "Did you know the lid is off your tank?"

I ran over there and saw that my cat was sitting on the chair in front of the tank and the lid was ajar. I quickly clamped it down again, but a little froggie must have been up in the corner about to escape because we saw it hop into the water bowl. I am praying I didn't hurt it at all. It appears to be fine, but I can't be sure. I'm going to keep checking on it and hope it's okay.

Anyway, I counted all 7 frogs. So, everyone is still there. Whew! I just about had a heart attack. Now I'm going to have to hurry and finish this tank setup. I weighted down the lid on the old tank so we won't have any more problems. Yikes!

That is hard! I have spring peeper froglets and they like to sleep on the rim of the tank sometimes. So I have to open the screen very carefully and I've had them jump out a couple of times. I'm always afraid of hurting them!

I had a horrible accident a couple months ago. I still haven't been able to talk about it, though maybe I will. I'm still guilt ridden about it. For now, I'll say I now have 4 Gray Tree Frogs instead of 5, I'm terrified every time I feed them, and they now have inadequate cover in the top of the tank. And I now hate the mesh lids that fit over the rim. I was always so careful about knowing where each frog was when the came off or on, but they're sometimes so fast you don't see them move. I can't get their new tank finished fast enough.
I know that feeling of horror, and I'm glad all your frogs are present and accounted for.

About three weeks ago I accidently squished my male Varadero in the upper hinge of an Exo Terra door. I haven't seen him since. I felt so terrible.

I'm so sorry to hear that you guys have experienced the same sadness. Tonight they are all hiding more than usual, so I'll feel better when I can count them all again at the same time and see that they are all still doing okay. I only see 4 for now, so I'm still stressing out about the little one I may have smushed.
