    Cool New member from Colorado!

Hello everyone. I am brand new to the frog community, but have kept aquariums for years. Currently I have a 45g reef. I have not started making any purchases yet, I am still trying to learn all I can. My daughter has been bugging for her first pet, and loved some frogs she saw at the pet store. I think she is ready, and definitely am going to teach her how to do things properly and responsibly.

So the basic plans as of right now are a 20g long FBT tank. I will make about a 8" land section in the middle with water surrounding it on 3 sides. The water will be 4-5" deep. There will be a steep drop towards the front with gentle slopes on both sides. I have not decided for sure how to make this, probably with various rocks and silicone.

The tank will be non heated as I have read FBTs are perfectly happy in normal room temp. I will have a small 9w CF light I have left over above the land mass. I will try to grow a couple low light plants. I will get this for the filter unless someone has a better suggestion. I like this because it looks like I can switch out the carbon myself instead of buying a bunch of cartridges.

I would like to have 4-5 frogs. I am going to try to get 2:3 or 1:3. I will feed primarily small crickets dusted with either calcium or vitamins 3 times per week. I will also feed them one of the gel type gut loads that provide food and water.

Where are the flaws in my plan and what suggestions do you have? Where is a good place to buy healthy frogs? Any better frogs to keep? In the fish world we call petco deathco, so I am not sure how much that applies here... Thanks alot!

    Here is my reef.

    Thank you very much.

Truthfully, as I said these frogs are for my daughter, but I am getting excited to get them!

Can anyone answer the couple questions I asked?

Also if I built a platform out of river rocks or something similar, how would I incorporate substrate for the plants? Is there a type of rock I could use that would wick some moisture up from the water to the substrate?

After doing some research I am considering using a method of hydroponic gardening. It is called the wick system. This would mean the growing substrate would be completely separated from the tank water. A few strands of nylon rope or candle wick would then be buried in the substrate and extended into the water column. Water would then be wicked into the substrate as the plants need it. Supposedly this is an easy method to obtain water, and is impossible to over water. I am thinking of a bark/moss substrate if I used this method...

Hi and welcome to Frog Forum. That is a very nice reef tank you have. I am sure your daughter would love the FBTs, they are very colorful and easy to care for. Check out the FBT threads on the forum, they have plenty of very useful information.
