    Default Blah... fruit fly issues

Tonight I went to feed the peepers, and I had 2 problems.

My fruit fly cultures were liquid, I tried to dump them and it poured out liquid goo. The fruit flies that didn't get caught in the goo, were flying. I tried 3 cultures and they were all like that, only the 4th was fine.

What happened?? Temp? Humidity? Any tips?

I had the same issue occur with some cultures I bought from Petco. They kept producing flies but I couldn't tip the jar. My home done cultures that I had at the same time didn't turn to liquid so I figured it was the Petco cultures themselves.

Were these those little vials from the pet store or your own culture? I've had them turn to goo before, if the flies were especially prolific and the food was near exhausted. I've recently noticed a few of mine flying as well, which I figured meant a wild one managed to sneak into the culture to pass on the gift of flight.

All 4 of them ranged from 8-26 to 9-7, so they shouldn't have been exhausted yet. They weren't the vials, they were from a local pet store that does their own cultures. I've never had a problem with them before. All 4 of my earlier ones are still doing fine. I think I will just have to let the pet store know that I had major issues with them the last 2 rounds and see if they've had other complaints.

It depends on why their flightless as to why you now have some fliers; are they flightless or wingless and why blahblahblah. My guess would be things got too warm.
