The only clawed frog I know of that has stripes is Xenopus gilli (Cape Platanna). It is endangered and only found in a small area in the Western Cape (Cape Town/Cape of Good Hope) province of South Africa. It is likely it is a Cape Platanna, but not positive. They prefer a "blackwater" (high acidic) environment with a pH 4-6. These frogs are on the edge. The alteration of their native habit by increasing the pH of the water has allowed the more aggressive X. laevis to interbreed with the Cape Platanna. leading to a quick extinction. Fortunately, steps are being made to repair the damage done. If you can get a close up photo of the head and legs, it might help.

Maybe its Asian. The pet store chain in my area gets these flukes once in a while. Nice looking frog and the mystery makes it interesting .Good luck with him his a cuty.

I'm going to Google it but good work on your little frog. How much did you pay for him.
Wow what a score. You have your self an uncommon frog. There's tons of info on the internet. I just looked for five seconds and there's ton of info .please keep us posted on the little guy. Die he eat for you yet,or he is still nervous.
Sorry I ment did.
I paid $9 for it, the petstore said they were going to sell it a the price of the ADF. And yes he did eat some black worms last night!! (he is a noisy frog at night)
I am now planning on redoing the tank it's in, it's tankmates are 2 mudskippers.![]()
The nice thing about these frogs is that you can put as many as you like together, and they don't get big. Yours is full grown!!. They come from Asia where they live in the rice fields.lol You can put them with the dwarf ACF. They will eat guppies, bloodworms, blackworms, tubefex worms, yummy. Thats a nice all around uncommon frog. Whats his name?![]()
You have your self an illegal alien. Try to get him his greenfrog card.lol
Yes, it's a "floating frog". I kept six of them for a year (1996/7) then sold them back to the dealer. I did some limited research but it was very hard to find detailed information about them at that time (which was before the Internet took off). Although the species is Occidozyga lima it is sometimes referred to as Ooeidozyga lima. (Confusion over its name arose because Ooeidozyga was published two months after Occidozyga). It belongs to the family Ranidae. It's habitat is in the rice fields of Asia where, according to my notes, it's found in Southern Yunnan east to Fujian including Haina, Hong Kong, China, India (Lower Bengal) to Malaya, Indonesia (Java) and Vietnam. The frogs I had were wild-caught imports from Hong Kong.
I maintained them in a 10 gallon aquarium with an undergravel filter plate (with about 2" of gravel on top) connected to an internal power filter on reverse flow. The power filter was on its side and set at its lowest output. Water depth was 4 inches and a heater/thermostat maintained a temperature of 23°C (73°F). I put plastic plants in the water for the frogs to rest on and hide amongst. I fed them on dusted crickets about once a week and changed about a quarter of the water every two weeks. They fared very well but, I have to say, I didn't find them very interesting vivarium subjects.
I am still thinking of names.... I might stream it online and get some name ideas from ustream members (my bluegill got is name on ustream "Retro")
and I'm going to be setting up a FBT vivarium soon
