Chirping toad

Yeah, it's a boy and he is named Rufus. I know they chirp for the release call or leave me alone, so answer me this. Why does Rufus chirp when I get home and he hears my voice? Is he calling to be feed since I talk to him and his roomy when feeding them? He does this while buried under the log so he doesn't even see me, just hears my voice. I would love to think this is a happy sound but I'm not holding my breath on that.

Female toads chirp too - they do this to tell males they are not receptive. I can't tell you with certainty why it chirps when under the log. It might have lodged itself too tightly under there and instinct is telling it to chirp to be let go, but that's just a guess.

John, He's not lodged because as soon as he started to chrip I thought some thing might be wrong and went to check him out. He was fine, just buried in the cypress mulch (Zoo Med Forest Floor Bedding) and then he gave me the stink eye as if to say "what do you want I'm resting". He also started to chirp when music started to play on the TV. Maybe he's just a crazy toad. I would just like to know if others could put some insight in this behavior since this is my first time being keeper of the toads.
