im getting a exo terra tank 36X18X36 and i wanted to first put crested gecko's but now im interested in dart frogs i was looking at some and the one i find the most colorful and amazing to me are the Ranitomeya ventrimaculatus "Iquitos" i believe thats how you spell it. i was wondering if i can have multiple of those species in the tank and or any suggestions of frogs i should possibly get or even mix with those frogs. I will get the tank this weekend and start building upon it and keep you guys posted if you want first time creating one but looking at tanks on youtube for the past two months really got me excited well thank you for your time and appreciate the help![]()
Welcome to the forum. Great idea. Ask away there's plenty of pros here to help you out . Thee is some beautiful viva on here.
Thats a lovely big viv and should be great fun to landscape!
Dart frogs are wonderful frogs and there are lots of species that can be kept quite happily in groups including vents.
Some of the thumbnail frogs are rather delicate but vents are pretty bold and robust.
The key to any dart species, thumbnail or not, is food supply. While you go about landscaping your viv I would strongly recommend practicing culturing small food items for them (typically fruit flies but there are lots of other suitable feeders - I have done an article that hopefully should be of help).
I am of the opinion you should keep one species per viv (to prevent hybridising as well as aggression problems) - there are people who mix but I would suggest that be left to very experienced dart keepers.
With regards the exo terra you may have to adapt it slightly to maintain the correct humidity and make them more fruit fly escape proof but both those are quite easy to do (sure there are guides on here to do that)
There are lots of other species that can be kept in groups so have a good read around and good luck!
