Igot my darling little Todie about 2 years ago. everything seams fine but about 2 months ago he has spent every day and as far as i know night in his water bowl. he even tries to eat his crickets from the bowl! is there something wrong with him? he is very timid and does not like me to touch or move him but to change his water i kinda need him out. in the past i could change it when he came out but he is never out of his water. the temperature is the same as it was last year. i have tried to mist his cage but he does not like that too much either! (he likes to puff him self up) i know toads like to be drier so i wonder why he is staying moist. any help would be brilliant. he is my first toad and i love him even if he thinks i am scary!!
Provided he's eating well and looks healthy, I wouldn't worry about it. You can always remove him from the water and change it, then put him back in afterward. How moist is the terrarium? Perhaps he's spending more time in the water because the setup is too dry for his liking?

You can mist the tank, but honestly I don't think it matters too much as long as the toad has the freedom to soak in the dish at will, and you keep the water fresh daily. That's how they drink. Mine sit in there often too and get all bloated, it's normal behavior.
My cane toads do they same thing, they'd still all day, every day in their deep water bowl if they could. I think they find it comfortable and consider it a "safe" spot since they feel like the water is covering them much like dirt would.
Thanks guys i know i do worry about him. he seams fine. i mist the cage, once a day but it is a little dry i know toads like dry more that wet i will try to moisten it a bit more. and i will not worry so much. it is comical when he tries to get his cricket through the bowl, and can't figure why he missed it!!!
Seems like your animal is a cane toad instead of a common toad.
My 4 day at the house cane toad is in his bowl everyday. I threw a mouse in hope he eats it. I guess there're watertoads.lol
