Anyway, I fed my roaches good today. They had apples, bananas, blueberries, cheese puffs, and carrots. Now that I just got a new pixie, ill be ready.
Cheese puffs wtf, haha. What dry food do you feed them?
Cat food, dog food, cereal, old fish food ,oats, corn, and oranges to get them to breed.
I've only had my dubia colony a week or so. My lobster colony I've had for over a month, but they where mixed with dubia, and the lobster ate all the dubia
The dubia colony I ordered 100 large from "the roach cafe" and got about 150 from him, huge over count, then I ordered "300 mixed" on ebay for a good price, and recived whats looks like 350 roachs, with a VERY good mix, with a ton of large roaches.
due to the luck of the numbers, i think my colony will be booming in 3 months time. I already have new babies, and have found about 5 large adult roaches have shead/molted already. so they are chuggin' along!
Oh man . You know we only learn from our mistakes. I lost 1000000 adult Dubia do to my mistakes ,but now I have it under control .
really? how?
Well The current ones I have are mostly adults, or VERY close to being adults. I have 500 small nymphs on the way. So I will start feeding off the lobster colony. I have been feeding them to Junk, and with enough time, I'm sure he would eat all of them faster then they can breed, But I have been buying crickets for my 3 bearded dragons (ones gravid and about to lay) and the crickets we get from petco are pathetically skinny and sickly looking. So now ill start feeding the lobster to the beardies too. I feed them 30 crickets twice a week, so im sure the lobster colony will be gone in about 2 months, haha In those 2 months the small adults I have now will have matured, and with all the mature adults spitting out baby nymphs, im sure I will be just find to start feeding off the dubia at that time.
I'm such a jerk. I left them in a bin with no ventilation for two days.they all rotted. The stink was out of this world. I was so busy that i forgot about them. I didnt notice and there was no smell either until i opened the bin.![]()
sh*t happens as they say. I've had a lot of bad luck in the herp game too. like I said in the other thread, I left about 20 crickets with my first beardie I ever owned over night without knowing better, and they ate his eyes out and killed him
the shipment of 500 dubia arrive....... when the guy said "small" he sure ment SMALL. these things are just babies. I knew the price was too good.
so I might have to stay on crickets to the beardies a bit longer. Don't want to start feeding the dubia off, just to start all over buying them agian.
Ahh man, that sucks. Sorry for your loss, now it won't ever happen again as we have all learned from plenty of mistakes. Not to keep this sad topic going, but the crickets you left in there. Were they the normal brown crickets, black cricket, or jamaican field crickets? The other crickets I could see being aggressive besides the brown cricket, I guess if there was enough of them like you said it can happen.
Oh ok so they were just the common brown cricket, which aren't aggressive at all, but if they're hungry incidents like this happen. #1 rule for everyone is to not leave crickets in the tank as you mentioned. Yeah I probably should of started a dubia colony before I got my pixie, but I was way to pumped to get one and couldn't wait haha.
Now you got me paranoid. I'm going to check up on my babies.
