    Smile Found an unidentified frog!

I live in the Panhandle of Texas and found a strange frog! At least I think it's a frog and not a toad. Never seen one like it around here. Can anyone identify it? THANKS!

Oh, that’s unmistakably a spadefoot…..they are awesome creatures and I especially love their eyes. I believe that’s a Couch’s Spadefoot Toad (Scaphiopus couchii ) to be exact.

Definitely a spadefoot! Beautiful! Are you going to keep it? They are interesting toads.

I would love to have a beautiful toad like that .You should keep it and study it.

I've got 5 of them... One drawback; to keep them successfully, you have to let them live naturally... Lots of substrate! They will remain buried most of the time. Occasionally, I get the pleasure of seeing one or two of them out on the hunt.

Also, make sure the vivarium is tall enough for them to not reach the top... They will sometimes try to knock the top off... They can harm themselves from trauma from the repetitive impact of snout to lid!

Fascinating little buggers... Their call is like that of the bleating of lambs :0)

They make pretty unrewarding captives in my opinion. Spadefoots really don't ever adapt to captivity like True Toads do.
