im building a wall for my terrarium using silicone and GREAT STUFF. my question is- should i wait a full 24 hours after applying the base silicone before using the foam? the tank is outside, and its around 90 degrees. so im positive it will dry fully within the day, its been done since about 11am.
im just really unpatient and dont want to wait to start creating my wall! but i dont want to do it too soon and regret it.
I would recommend waiting until the silicon is fully cured. Just wondering, what is the purpose of silicon under the GS? I usually just GS directly on the glass... Unless I use foam on the side of the tank to hide the unsightly appearance of it.
dangim just too stoked about this project, but im sure that not cutting corners will be worth it.
i read on another forum that the silicone makes it look better, and although im not too worried about how the back looks, i figured i might as well incase someday the look of it ended up bothering me.
Lol! I siliconed the back of my first viv... I think it's cheaper to just get the black pond GS. I haven't used it before but will be... Hopefully this weekend!
ah, so its a newbie mistake! thats okay, i dont fully know what im doing so im just going with the flow, learning as i go![]()
It's not a mistake... I was just wondering. Lots of seasoned viv builders will put silicone on the backs of their vivs claiming it adds to the integrity of the design. I have found that GS sticks better to glass than silicone (unless you add something for the GS to grip)... This is debatable though.
