    Default A couple of questions.

I have a couple of questions and Im hoping someone on here can help.

Im finding it hard to get the humidity down in my White's viv. Its currently sitting in the 80% and I havent even sprayed it for the last 3-4 days. How can I adjust this as Ive read that it should be in the 60% range.

Also can someone remind me please what to listen for to distinguish if my frog is male or female. My husband was up early this morning and heard him/her croaking as he put it.

    Thanks

80% is alright. Better to be higher than lower, by far. To reduce it you could ventilate the tank more but if it were me I wouldn't change anything.

Males sound like a loud duck quacking over and over. Hard to miss. Females don't quack, and are usually chubbier when mature.

Thank you John Clare and JWells. We definitely have a male frog then, played some of those sounds to hubby and one of them was spot on.

Wont worry about the humidity then unless it drops very low.

Another thing...sorry keep thinking of little things. Can I put live plants in the viv and if yes what sort. So far we only have plastic plants which are okay but it would be nice to get something natural in there.

I must get some pics up so you can see what we have done so far.

What kind of ventilation do you currently have? Water features?

Live plants are generally preferred to plastic but they also tend to raise the humidity. Pothos is a good plant to start with, very easy to grow. Various snake plants are extremely sturdy and easy to care for.

Most cheap hygrometers aren't terribly accurate. Don't get hung up on trying to achieve a certain % humidity or you will go crazy.

There are two ventilation slots at the back of the viv lid, I have them open about half way at the moment, which probably equals and inch on either corner. I can open them more though but it concerns me that any crickets in there will escape...lol.

Water features - we just have a water bowl on the floor. Havent got around to putting anything else in yet as not sure what to do.

Havent a clue what a Pothos plant is, not sure if we get it in the UK. Also what are snake plants?

Nah Ive relaxed about the humidity, so thats not a worry now.
