I have a White's Tree Frog and Ive been looking for another one. Anyway I had someone offer me a different species the other day, said I could put it with my current tree frog. I havent replied to them yet as I dont think this is right.
They offered me an European Tree Frog.
Can some one confirm that I am right please.
Thanks
Yes....you are correct. It is strongly advised to keep different species of frogs separate for many reasons. Every species carries a certain bacterial load or level of toxins that they secrete naturally that their bodies are use to and they have built up immunities to. A frog's skin is very permeable and it absorbs water and moisture through it. Just like when Columbus first visited American and introduced bacteria and diseases to the Indians that they had no natural immunities to. The Indian population was decimated by illnesses that their bodies couldn't handle. The same thing happens when you introduce different species of frogs into one enclosure. Besides the fact that the Whites is going to grow so large he's going to view his tank mates as dinner. Then you have the Whites preferring a warmer climate then its European counter part. If you're looking for variety in your tank consider getting a blue phase Whites.
Thanks Cheri. I would love a Blue Phase Whites but Im having enough trouble getting hold of another standard White's.
