Just tonight I've noticed one of my RETFs is calling nearly rapid fire, different calls too, or maybe it's the other responding, I'm not sure honestly. He's JUST done it again, five chirps "rolled" together. He's (they?) been doing it every ~20 seconds for ten minutes now. Neither of them has ever done it so many times in a row. Is there a specific reason? I'm just wondering. :] There's two males, they're in a glass ~50gal hex tank with lots of plants, a nice little mini-"pond in a dish", humidity and temp has been constant. They used to have a female with them but we had a little escape accident and, though I found her in time, she didn't last more than another week. :[
& there again, three more chirps!
You know what, I went to look and I can see him better now, he came out in the open, it looks like his whole entire being is shaking with the intensity of his calls. He's almost pacing back and forth on a large branch. I haven't added anything new to the tank, as far as I can see there's nothing out of place...
Calling is not a bad sign.

Perhaps he would like a girlfriend
The peepers here in Pa have been calling like crazy. Daytime and evening. Although, they are outdoors.

I didn't think it was necessarily bad, just wondering if there's a common reason he could have suddenly become so active. I mean, he's still going at it, and he's really throwing himself into it. I think it's startling, if anything; I've never had tree frogs before and they're so frail looking!
I was going to pick up another female at the next local bi-monthly animal expo. The male that is always calling and moving around the tank is a bit bigger than the other, so I suppose he's king of the tank.
Did you have a rain storm in the last few days? That might have set him of if he just reached maturity.

I have 4 american green tree frogs . I have had them for 2 or more years. last night they started calling all night. And they're in my bedroom ! I'm glad to see them happy but if they keep that up ,they will be moving downstairs soon.
It looks like its time to get your man a girlfriend.I have three male Red Eyes and I have noticed one is definately more dominant and has more luck with the girls. He is also louder and chirps more often than the others. I can just play the radio softly and he'll hear it and start up. I think it's fun... When he's really going I can "chirp" at him and he'll chirp back. The louder I get the louder he gets.
