Tony, that's a really nice setup, well done.
I'm about to start converting my aquarium tank for use with FBT's and need to sort some sort of mesh lid out. It comes with a hinged, curved lid with 2 flaps similar to yours. My plan was to remove the 2 flaps and then cut out the centre section, then just cover all the remaining hole with mesh.
Have you done away with the original lid and got a separate screen lid to fit the tank? can I ask how you made one, or where you got from one if you bought it?
Causing me a bit of headache at the moment figuring out how to do it.
hi fella, thanks for the comments, added a little more decor now and covered an extra side, so they get more privacy.
to answer your question about the lid. originally i was going to buy a mesh lid, because i was worried about the ventilation as you can see in the pics, so i basically removed the hinged lid and taped down mesh i had left over from a previous job, i'm guessing that the size of the vented area is about 57cm by about 10cm (maybe a little less). i did this diy job at about midnight, by 7 the next morning, no mist on the tank glass and the inside of the tank has no odour what so ever (a sign of good ventilation).
so i would personally say, removing the feeding lid, and cutting a little extra would be perfect, its not the prettiest but i just taped my mesh down with duct tape, but you could use aquarium sealant
hope this helps, and good luck with your future toads, keep us posted
I know you've alread fixed it, and it looks great, but a small computer fan wired to a 9v battery and placed into a hood, so it pulls air out, works as well.
