I think its down to individual frogs. I have one that's nearly totaly aquatic , one that rarely goes in water and another that splits time in and out, same temperatures and set ups.

I have decided to have a go at breeding my bullfrogs, after a period of conditioning with plenty of food I was going to cool them off over the next two weeks, slowly letting their tanks dry out a bit...

Hi
Just a thought is the patch growing or changing size? Is it possible that it is some sort of chemical burn / reaction to something on the operating table?
One of mine had this happen twice when young, and an adult male I have just picked up had it happen with its previous owner about 3 years ago, both have been fine since (only the adult required...

Earth worms are about, Bufu bufo love them in my experience.
I use a heat pad on the side and 10w 12volt halogen lighting, high up well out of reach. The whole lot runs through a thermostat. If I turn up the heat they tend to dig in to the cooler side. Never...
I've got a pair in a split tank, the female will always eat if offered food, the male will often only eat if the food walks right up to him. Its obvious he is not that interested, but every now and...
One of mine goes crazy for the bright blue forceps I use to feed it worms, it will start going for them even when I have dropped the worm. I recon it would eat anything that I was holding with them,...
I agree, the first one could be Rana lessonae, but I had seen its whole body, it moved before I could photograph it and some others I examined in the same area looked closer to edible than pool. I do...

I have kept axoltls for many years, just got 18 at the moment. Overcrowding causes them to bite at each other, dim lighting seems to reduce this. Live bloodworm is my food of choice for young animals...
When mine were very young they seemed much more likely to try to eat anything that came close to them. That and the relative mouth to body size of babies meant I would not put them in together. At a...
Just thought people might like to see the newly metamorphosed Rana temporaria that are appearing all over my garden.
Certainly a common toad Bufo bufo, they can jump if they need to.
Hi. If you have tadpoles in the UK and they are this years you can be pretty sure they are common frogs, I have some newt tadpoles that overwintered from last year but they look very different. Did...
Down at our local pond today there were dozens of Bufo bufo, all male, the females will turn up later. It reminded me that as kids we would catch the males by gently shaking a stick in the water,...
This is one of my frogs, its about 18 months old and is about 4 inches long, but it was quite ill with a prolapse around a year ago and stopped growing for a while. Very healthy now and eats anything...
In terms of frogs around Leicester way you should only come across common frogs, like these, though you might come across an American Bullfrog. I had someone bring one to me from their pond in...
Yes, spring must be getting here. I heard my first common frogs last night and have seen pairs in a neighbours pond.
Curly-winged housefly (Musca domestica), if this is what you are after most good reptile shops in the UK can order them, Dartfrog has culture food .
The dyes are often a mixture of diazo dyes, including Sudan IV. This is banned in food stuffs as it is cancer causing. Its classed as OK in maggots as it is inside their skin and should not come into...
Just did what Ebony suggested, images show compost worms, ask for red worms or brandlings at an angling shop and you might be luky. Some species don't seem to like eating these.
I think this might be a what country you are in kind of thing. The angling shops over here tend to stock dyed red maggots, but they also sometimes sell red worms ( some call them brandlings) that are...
