    Re: Feeder alternatives during quarantine

At the time I was happy with whatever I got. After all is said and done though it’s a no brainer anyway since they live forever and don’t stink. Even with shipping they still cost less than local. My...

    Re: Feeder alternatives during quarantine

@herpin man, I was able to score a big order of banded crix from Josh’s. Things started to get ugly fast here in NY a few weeks ago due to COVID 19 and almost every online vendor was having issues...

    Feeder alternatives during quarantine

I have always championed the use of live, gutloaded and appropriately supplemented insect prey. However, here in NY those options are now (among many other things) extremely limited. That said, and...
  4. Re: New to frogs.. RETF, Vietnamese Mossy Frogs and Fire Bellied Toads.. help pls

Ok. There is a lot going on here so I will offer my advice point by point.

    1. First off, kudos to you for realizing that things aren’t quite right for your animals and for being proactive about...
  5. Re: New Member looking for input on enclosure design for WTF

I have used GE silicone 1. (Without any mold inhibitor). It takes a while to cure but it is generally considered safe. (Wait a few weeks. It takes a while for the smell to dissipate).Remember to...
  6. Re: Golden Tree Frog and RETF in the same enclosure?

That is a shame and I am genuinely sorry it died. It can be very upsetting loosing a frog so soon after acquiring it. Look at the situation as a learning experience though. You did the right thing by...
  7. Re: Golden Tree Frog and RETF in the same enclosure?

I agree with wardog. Mixing species is a bad idea for a number of reasons. Yes golds are very hardy and will probably tolerate the same conditions as a retf but the chances of competition, disease...

Re: Fumes - can I have a frog?

I wouldn’t worry given that you are painting with acrylic. Just use common sense and ventilate the area well. Anything oil or acid based would concern me but otherwise acrylic and watercolor should...
  9. Re: New Member looking for input on enclosure design for WTF

Serpa design has great tutorials on YouTube. I copied his fire belly toad paludarium build and it came out great. Just bear in mind that it is easier to go big with a paludarium than it is to go...
  10. Re: New Member looking for input on enclosure design for WTF

If you have the cleanout don’t worry about what I said. Over misting without a way to remove the excess water in the drainage layer is a common mistake but you have it covered. Good thinking btw....
  11. Re: New Member looking for input on enclosure design for WTF

Looks good. You may need to tweak your misting times a bit depending on how much air movement you have. Watch your drainage layer. If it fills up you are misting too much. Other than that spot on!

Re: Gray tree frog not eating...

Can you provide a detailed description of the old enclosure and the new one? Also, I would strongly recommend against cohabitating different species. I would place your frog back into it’s original...

    Re: Lighting questions

A Zoo Med reptisun 5.0 would probably be the way to go. Bear in mind though, you will have to change the bulb every six months. (As you would with any UVB light). There are also some variables such...
  14. Re: How to properly pick up my white tree frog without hurting her

I use a 16 oz deli cup. I hold the cup over and in front of the frog then gently nudge it in from behind. Doing it this way avoids any unwanted leaps to freedom so to speak. I put the cup back in the...
  15. Re: I haven't seen my pacman frog for about 4-5 days.

A ten gallon tank is a bit large for a froglet the size of a quarter. You may want to switch to a smaller size or put the frog in a smaller enclosure within the 10 gallon. Since you are having issues...
  16. Re: I haven't seen my pacman frog for about 4-5 days.

Can you describe the enclosure in detail? (Look at the “trouble in the enclosure” sticky for reference)
  17. Re: Help! I dropped my pixie frog about 3 feet! Should I be worried

It is a definite possibility but over the past 25 years years I have had the occasional frog sustain an accidental fall without ill effects. Bear in mind though a smaller frog will tolerate a short...

Re: Baby Pac-Man frog won’t eat?

All in in all your set up sounds good but a few things stick out. A full 3 inches of substrate is in my opinion a lot. You shouldn’t have to dig your frog out constantly to check on it. For...

Re: Baby Pac-Man frog won’t eat?

Can you describe the enclosure in detail? A description helps (See the “trouble in the enclosure” sticky).

Nonetheless, a few suggestions come to mind. Most importantly I’d advise you to avoid...

Re: A look ahead to 2020

Lol thank you for the kind words. I’d like some more content about UVB actually. A while back I believe you had noted that pointed caudal bones may result from a lack of UVB. Low and behold my L....

    Re: Fungus gnats

The simple answer is to let everything dry out and I’d definitely toss the houseplant. You may have to change your substrate a few times as well and /or move your terrariums to another location in...

Re: whites tree frog and red eye tree frog

I recommend keeping them separate. Mixing species can cause stress and competition for resources within the vivarium. Also, whites are much more aggressive feeders and may make a meal of your RETF.

    Re: Mozambique Rain Frog

This species also became a bit of a YouTube sensation so I understand it’s popularity and interest in it.
