    Re: Lighting questions

Are you dusting his food? And what kind of frog is he? Can we get a few more details about his enclosure, humidity, substrate, etc.?
  2. Re: Bombina orientalis - Looking for CB online

Thanks. I'll check into it. These guys used to be so ubiquitous, and they're fairly easy to breed. I've been surprised not to find more available through reliable, online merchants atm.
  3. Bombina orientalis - Looking for CB online

Anyone have suggestions for ordering CB Bombina orientalis online? Many of the usual haunts are out of stock, and I'm working on a setup that would suit this species.

Re: Can I get another toad?

How big is your enclosure? If you do add one (assuming you have the space), I would quarantine it for 30 days, just to make sure it is healthy and does not make the original frog sick.

    Re: Elderly Tree frog

Congratulations on caring for this little guy for 19 years! I've no advice beyond what you've covered, which is to find a vet who specializes in amphibians. While I don't know what's near you (I'm in...

For Sale: Re: Just too many dart frogs.

What kind of dart frogs are they, and have you considered shipping? I might be interested, but I am out in CA.

Re: Best amphibian for small enclosure

Tree frogs, even the smaller ones, are aboreal, and like to move around, so I really worry about putting them in an enclosure that small. Again, they might survive for a little while, but they will...

Re: Best amphibian for small enclosure

It will survive without a filter and with frequent water changes, but it will not thrive and its lifespan would be shortened. I definitely would not use an enclosure that small for any species of...

    Re: New Frogs!

Here's an adorable little action shot. I wish I had a proper camera. These little ones are so tiny that my phone has trouble focusing, sometimes.

    New Frogs!

Hello everyone! I'm not exactly new to the forum, but I have not been active in a long time since I did not have frogs for a while. I picked up some new critters at the Los Angeles reptile expo on...
  14. Re: Need help re-doing my setup for juvi Northern Leopard frog

Here's another care sheet that is similar, but might also be useful. Both suggest 30 gallons, which sounds small to me, having seen leopard frogs move around in the wild. While he's a little guy, the...

Re: Established Viv...but is it safe?

I do know that fire belly toads excrete toxins, but I have no idea whether or how long it would take to get the toxins removed from the environment.

  17. Re: so at the reptile store i saw a huge planted enclosure WITH

Yes, pet stores often keep animals, displays in particular, that would be inappropriate for long-term care. Remember that the pet store is meant to be a temporary housing situation, until customer...
  18. Re: (Weird Behavior?) Why is Rico jumping and staring at his glass?

I agree. My first thought was that he's seeing glimpses of his own reflection that he either thinks is another frog or a prey item.

    Re: Considering dart frogs

The folks on dendroboard might know of Canadian breeders or retailers that can ship to Canada. If you're really interested, it's worth asking. :)

    Re: Considering dart frogs

I've not done it yet, but I recommend that you do some research and look for a reliable breeder on www.dendroboard.com. I follow that forum for the vivarium design tips (which are awesome), but it's...

    Re: Clean up crew questions

I will add that, after my most recent tank dismantling, I have realized that worms can navigate leca balls fairly well. I'd worry less about that than about drowning, but if flooding isn't a problem,...

    Re: Clean up crew questions

My hermit crabs have 6+ inches, and that's been excellent. I've tried with 2 inches, and it seems ok. Don't put too many in, in case they don't make it. You don't want them fouling the tank. I often...

I add earthworms to anything with deep enough substrate. It's worked out wonderfully so far.

Re: Cleaning out a former Aquarium?

Is this going to be a frog tank? Or a fish tank? Ich is a parasite that fish naturally carry, which becomes problematic when they are stressed for one reason or another. I did not think it could...
