    Re: Pyxicephalus obbianus

The tympanum in adult males is huge, and very close to the eye. The dorsal patterning is totally unique. I'll try to post some photos shortly, but need to resize them first. If anyone wants them,...

    Re: sexing pyxicephalus

You can clearly see the grayish velvety nuptial pads on his inner 3 fingers of his thickened forearms, so I'm absolutely sure he is a male. :-)

    Re: Pixie Frog Growl/bark?

Yeah! The puffed up stance is saying just that, too. If you lived (naturally) in an environment with hyenas, wild dogs, ratels, meerkats, etc. and other high-end African land mammals, you may learn...

  8. Re: African Bullfrog sexing? Male or Female? rethread

I would say male, based on forearm thickness. For doubters of this fact, see Kenton Wells (2007) The Ecology and Behavior of Amphibians, University of Chicago Press, Chicago and London (a fantastic...

Re: Need help who can sex my gabf please

Hiya, I would say the adspersus is a male, given his relatively thickened forearms. This is a reliable means of sexing (short of dissecting him to take a look inside). The edulis is too young still...
  12. Re: My frog seems to be male but he seems small for his age...? (pictures)

I think your frog is a boy because: a) he called, and b) he has the expanded forearms typical of adult males. His size is good for an individual +1 year old. Nice frog.
