My Pacman frog, Noel, is a piggie. She eats about 4 or 5 crickets if given the chance in a sitting. Mind you I do give 2 full days between feedings as she usually rejects food if too soon. I'm actually glad she doesn't just eat and eat like a dog does, her rejections of food help me to know when she's hungry and when she's not.

When I first got Noel she ate 2 crickets every day or 1 super worm. She was, at first, about 1 inch from nose to bum. Now she's over 2 inches from nose to bum. I do dust her food every other feeding with calcium and once a week with a mix of multivitamin and calcium with D3 dusted on her food. She also has let me know she wants the large crickets as it seems she sees them better and thus gets more excited to see them. She even chases them down!surprisedfrog

I think she's loving her new 10 gallon home, it's double the starter size which gives her more room to move and more room for me to put real plants in. Though the plants are still in the pots.

I've tried the worms used for fishing with her but she has little to no interest in them. I might try some other bugs this weekend when I make my weekly trip to the pet store for her yummies. Not sure what I'll try, gonna have to look up which insects would be best for a 2-inch Pacman.

It's funny as heck watching her chase crickets across the cage, her plump body waddling as she goes. I have no idea why she gives chase, but I assume it's because she hasn't the patience to wait for them to get to her.frogsmile

Peppermint Gone. Hello Noel!

Peppermint the ornate horned frog aka a Pacman, I bought about 6 days ago. Unfortunately, Peppermint wouldn't eat, was becoming overly skinny and so I had to bring it to the place I got him and do an exchange which was hard to do.

I didn't want to give up on Peppermint, tried everything I could from raising temperature, humidity and so on with no good results. I should have insisted on seeing the frog eat to ensure it was active enough. So two days ago on the 2nd I brought Peppermint back and agreed to allow them 2 days to improve the situation. Sadly Peppermint was still refusing to eat and was not acting as a healthy frog should. I feared if I brought Peppermint home it would cause further stress on an animal that is already stressed out and ill. I couldn't do that to Peppermint.

So with little choice I took the option to exchange for a different frog. This one being albino and about the same size as Peppermint, perhaps a touch larger. This one had a great deal of attitude to it. The first time he had shown me the frog on Friday he had just uncovered it and the frog promptly tried to bite his finger, missed but still tried. Today we arrived in time to watch the feeding and the albino was super fast at flicking its tongue to grab the food it so desired. Even being nudged caused it to go into a more aggressive stance than I'd thought it could. The frog has attitude and a large pair of metaphorical balls.

When switched into the carrier this albino decided it wanted to eat my fingers, face and anything else that got too close to it. It lunged at me several times and anything that moved. I was pleased. This is a frog that is worth having around, one that matches me, takes no guff from anyone and is willing to do what it takes. So, being that it's Christmas coming up and the theme of naming is along those lines I started to think of naming. The man who sold me the frog told me as he looked at the albino that he believes it's a girl. I still went with a more neutral name just in case, Noel.

About 4 days ago I bought a Peppermint colored Pacman frog I named well...Peppermint. It looked healthy and was actively trying to avoid being touched. I had a nice 20gallon reptile cage from a previous snake I'd had. I set it up and placed Peppermint in thinking 20 gallons of room will be plenty...well okay the frog only touches floor, but hey...a lotta room.

The next day Peppermint had covered itself with dirt and wouldn't come out from hiding to be fed.

48 hours after I got Peppermint it still refused to eat. I was becoming over-concerned at this point.

Day 3 I called the place I got him and ended up buying a smaller tank 5.5 gallons and a new decoration or two that night Peppermint finally ate a worm.

Today, the 2nd of Dec 2016. Sadly Peppermint still refuses food. It's become so weak from a lack of food there's little to no fight left. I wept as I realized Peppermint is going to die if I don't do something drastic. So I force fed him 2 crickets by prying his mouth open and shoving 1 cricket in at a time. It took everything I had to not ball my eyes out as I had to force Peppermint's mouth open.

I honestly don't know what to do aside from force feeding Peppermint or returning it. If I return it they won't help make him better they'll just refund my money and say they're sorry. So maybe I'll struggle to feed Peppermint 2 crickets a day perhaps I'll give a third before bedtime. I'm desperate and out of my mind with grief. I don't want to give up on it, Peppermint deserves to live and be a happy little frog. Peppermint is so tiny even from get go was barely bigger than a quarter.

I'm crying as I post this because I can't stand the thought of letting Peppermint die but I don't know if I can nurse it back to health or if I should give up and demand a refund. It's not fair to Peppermint that it is going through this and it isn't fair for me to have to endure it. I don't even know if it's plausible at this point for Peppermint to recover.
