I almost literally grew up in a green house. My grandparents grew bedding plants commercially on their farm and I spent many summers working there. I also helped my mom with house plants and blubs, begging plants, herbs, vegetables and roses, as well as trees, shrubs and lawn care. For the last several years I have gone without so much as a lucky bamboo, until I planted my first Vivarium. Now my next project is a mini greenhouse for my desk. I plan on planting mostly frog safe plants that might be transplanted into a vivarium at some point with the exception of possibly a Venus Flytrap. I will be dealing with some plants I have dealt with before and some I am unfamiliar with. The idea is to learn about the plants for future use and just for enjoyment. When I have a picture of the container garden I will post it, but this will be a few weeks in the making even though I have the aquarium I am converting to the use already. Petco was having a dollar a gallon sale and a standard 10 gallon should give me enough room without overloading the shelf.

Wish me luck...

I never met my Brother In Law's mother because she died while he was still in high school, but he tells a story about her as a child that I would like to share.:)

Back in the early part of the 20th century San Fransisco experienced a frog boom one year. See there was a little girl named Eva who was the child of Italian immigrants. Eva's father made wine and it was the practice at the time to keep empty aging barrels full of water so they would not dry out. One day in a near by stream little Eva found these interesting little fishiesfrogsmile and decided to put as many as she could find in her father's aging barrels so she could keep them as pets. Now in these barrels the fishiesfrogsmile were protected from their natural predators and as Eva fed them they started to grow legs. When they all got big enough they hopped out of the barrels and low and behold Eva's neighborhood was over run by frogs.surprisedfrog

This is part of why you should leave tadpoles alone in the wild. You might throw the local ecosystem out of whack.

So Mila is a playful little Azureus. She jumps up on the leaves of the Pothos and then does a flip in mid air to try and cling to the small area of mesh screen in the lid of the QT tub. This is not metel wire mesh it's the same stuff they use in most modern window screens. She does not seem to hurt herself when she tries this, but my husband wonders if it is cause for concern. So he asked me to post this and see what you think.

Any input?

Do you believe that there can be love at first sight with a frog?

I have been going to the pet store that sells dart frogs a few times a week since we first saw the frogs a almost 4 weeks back. mostly asking questions and buying this or that to make our little Vivarium. They have little Northern Ranitomeya Variabilis and and different Leucomelas Morphs. They had a few Aratus morphs that sold and a red and white kind that is very shy. They had some cobalts and today I saw the little Pamilio all by himself.

Well there was this single male Azures that is close to fully mature and I swear when I saw him today he whispered in my ear, "Take me home, for I am your Mila." So now he sits in my QT setup waiting for the springtails to take in the Vivarium and us to be sure he is healthy. He is a bouncy, frisky, friendly fellow who perches everywhere he can get a foothold and laps up the flies from the store bought culture as if they were going out of style. He loves to jump up on the leaves of the pothos and occasionally he falls off and makes me laugh.

When I can catch him in a good shot I will post a picture.
