Same Toad, same wood pile, different day. It was actually inside the wood pile this day, making me glad that I was lifting the logs off the pile to split them instead of letting gravity do the work and rolling them. One bold mark on the chest, I think it signifies rank in the toad world. This one's a Private. It did like to hide.

  1. Beautiful photo. Yeah, they are rather sour-faced, but you capture that sour face with a lot of dignity. Dignity, on a toad. It hurts even my brain, but it's true!

Thank you! It was still dignified after being evicted from its woodpile for a second time. The wood pile was then relocated rather violently with a tractor (not my doing) to where I stacked it. The same toad popped out for a third time. It was less dignified this time and it peed on me as I moved it to the safety of the garden. The woods all stacked for the year, and it's too big for the resident snakes (I hope), so I think this toad will have time to regain its dignity in safety.
