Aquarium hood ventilation

They really aren't suitable for frogs. I would advise you to get a screen lid and modify it to retain humidity.

Thanks John. after doing some searching here I was thinking along that way. I think I will try a start with 2/3 glass and 1/3 screen and see how that holds humidity and temp before adding frogs..

I just picked up a roll cling wrap (saranwrap) to help with this. It could be useful to experiment with.

I may just have to try that to see how much coverage if any I need. The air is so dry here during the winter months.

As John mentioned: Just screen ( or open egg crate) with a 12X24 top may be to large area to leave completely uncovered?
The top of mine is 36x 18 - I have glass over 1/2. However, I do not needed it the summer.
I actually need the glass on top to control the temp ( now that it's cooler) more than the humidity because of the height of the enclosure.
Every enclosure is different depending on all the other factors --plants, water, substrate, height , etc.

So, as you know, it's best to get things all set before the frogs go in.
Have you considered turning it vertically? They would gain 6" of climbing space. Then there is just glass on top, with out any ventilation. Just annoying- I think.
I'm in a pickle w/ a decision like this as well w/ something I am planning for a pair of Amazons Milk frogs. ( don't have the frogs yet).
I have this great 36 high garage sale find. I am considering taking the measurements to a 'window/screen guy' and getting a price on a new front vs ?????????

two thoughts come to mind:
1) The edges of the crate is a little sharp? A Red Eye would not climb up-side down on screening. Egg crate? I think they could crab in there between the spaces.
I know my wise guys would if there was something they could get their little 'monkey pads' on!
2) its plastic. There could be concern w/any above the enclosure heat? Most screen tops are metal.
Not that you would put heat so close to cause a hot spot, but worth a thought. Depends?

I utilize pieces of thin plexiglass on top of the screen lids to control humidity and restrict drafts. the advantage to this method is you can cut the sections in such a way to allow you to mix and match. This is great as often one needs to adjust such controls seasonally.

Yes i need to get several different size pieces and use them the way you discribe. We have such extreme temperature changes here from winter to summer, 35C in summer with high humidity to -40C in winter with low humidity.
