Default New whites, need some advice...

I just got this guy two days ago. I noticed that his sides look a little swollen/bloated. I have him in a quaratine tank for now, 60% humidity, temps 73-80. It looks as though he constricts and relaxes his sides a lot. I have one whites already and I do not believe he is in the act of shedding, as I have witnessed this behavior many times (no mouth gapping). The first night he ate 4 crickets. I also saw feces so I dont believe he's impacted. He's pretty sedentry, but thats probably because he's still not aware of his new surroundings. I also don't think he's obese because wouldn't fat be stored in his tympanic ridge as well as his body? His tymp.ridge is rather thin. I've read bloating could be early signs of kidney failure due to reabsorption of ammonia in unclean water bowls ( I did get him at Petco so that can be thae case). Would warm water baths be useful to maybe "flush" out any toxins absorbed? Any other suggestions? Thanks

To me it doesn't look bloated, but that's not a good photo to make any determination. Have a read of this: Caudata Culture Articles: Bloat

Thanks for the response and the link John. I don't know, maybe I'm just being paranoid. It just looks a lot "plumper" than my current whites thats all. Here's a few more pics. Maybe I have nothin to worry about.

My frogs are about a month old now and they both looked like that they seem fine. That's just how they look.

Hey illadelfyaEAGLE, you know I wouldn't be too worried about your little guy so far. He does look a bit plump, but this could be from over feeding. You can try some warm water soaks if you're worried too much but if there's no change after that I would just monitor him closely for the next few weeks and see if there are any changes in his behavior or if he stops eating, etc. I think so far you've done good in asking us if there could be a problem, but for now just keep a watchful eye and hope for the best.

Looks pretty normal to me. If he's eating and acting normal otherwise, I'd say just keep an eye on him.

I soaked him in some luke warm water with some honey (as desribed in the care section) and he took a huge dump as expected. Does look a little leaner. I guess I'll feed him 2-3 crickets every other day. I'm def dusting with herpvite and rep-cal because I doubt it got any supplements at petco. He soaks at night but isn't nearly as active at night as my other one (that one doesn't sit still for a second once he's up). I guess he's still a little shocked from being transported. Hopefully he'll get more active in a few days. One a side note, how active are your whites? Do they move a lot at night or are they fairly stationary? I guess it depends on the frogs personality?

Good news. Sounds fairly normal. My white's are pretty active to be honest, but it depends on the individual frog, temps, weather etc. IMO, "personality" is different from frog to frog. The fact that he's eating and defecating is a good thing...

I know this is random, but I just wanted to say that I really liked the spotting on your new whites! Congrats, and I'm sure he'll warm up to his new home soon.

Not to beat a dead horse, but here are some more pics of the lil guy. Does he pass the eye test for being healthy? Does anyone think it's too fat? Like I said before, for its relatively small size, its girth is the same of my other full grown male whites tree frog. I know females grow larger, are they also generally more "dumpy" too? I'm thinking it may be a female because its throat sac is white and it hasn't called yet.

Looks perfectly normal to me. Keep in mind that they absorb water when they soak in a water dish and will look really exploded sometimes since they absorbed a ton of water. Just stand clean when they pee since it will shoot a long way :-)
