New to the Forum, could use a little information please

Hi,

After a very tiresome search of the internet and not finding an answer even after reading through page after page of information on Whites Tree Frogs, i was wondering if you guys could help me. My son acquired 2 tree frogs about a little over a year ago. They were both about the size of a Quarter when he brought them home. Naturally being a teenager he did not think it through...just bought them at the petsmart and carted them home in a cardboard carrier.

Thankfully we had a 55 gallon aquarium and stand in the shed so after pulling it out and cleaning it up we set it up, purchased everything the care sheet said to purchase and he was now the care giver of 2 frogs.

Now as most of you have probably deduced by now, it was only about 2 or 3 months before it was mom cleaning out the tank and feeding the critters, changing water, watching temperatures and humidity etc..etc..etc..

Well until now I thought I was doing a great job, they seemed happy and healthy, and growing like crazy. They are both pretty big, way past silver dollar sized (the old kind).

I have gone through several different substrates for the cage (every sheet I read says something different) but the one I used the longest was a type of dirt like substance without any large peices as I have read about the impaction danger. This type of substance is a real pain when it comes to cleaning though, so I was looking for an alternative. I found a very soft carpet like material at the pet store and decided to try it for a while. Frankly I think it makes the tank look much more attractive and don't mind paying for it each month when I change out the tank because it is going to be much easier. Also in between it makes removing waste and crickets that didn't get eaten much much easier.

My problem is, since changing to this carpet, one of the frogs (Frogger) has begun throwing up his crickets. he stalks and hunts but this is the third feeding that I have found him sitting on the floor of the tank with a regurgitated cricket in front of him. His color is good, he moves about at night but I'm not sure if he is keeping any crickets in. With both of them in the cage I don't know if the other frog (Peter) is just taking advantage of being able to eat more crickets or if Frogger is just eating too many? Is this possible?

I have done all of the things suggested here on threads pertaining to other sick Whites, but he doesn't really have those symptoms. Just because he seems to enjoy it so much, I have kept putting the warm water bath bowl in with him every day (this is day 3) but there is no poop in it ever, he just crawls in and stays there and then at some point goes back into the fake tree log or out onto the cage carpet.

My other problem is I haven't been able to find an exotics specialist near me to even make an appt. for him. Another thing my son didn't consider before bringing them home, and my husband didn't consider before buying son number two his own bearded dragon, which is thankfully looking and acting healthy, and we're going on month number 4.

So after my long winded post, I guess what I really need to know is if throwing up crickets is something they do sometimes or is he really sick?

Vomiting can be a sign on gastrointestinal parasite infestation, most likely from protozoa. I know only one of your frogs is throwing up, but both frogs need to be treated since they share the same enclosure. If a fecal sample can be produced from either frog before a trip the vet, it would help a lot in diagnosis. To test properly, the sample should be no more than 24 hours old and it can not be harvested from the frogs' water bowl.

Since neither your location or country are displayed in your profile, I find it hard to reccomend a vet for you. Thats why we ask our members to post them. Its helps us a lot to help you.
