Like the title says, how long after lghts out until Red-Eyed Leaf Frog usually wake up?

I just got two females on Sunday, their lights went off about 4 hours ago and they are still sleeping.
Is this likely a symptom of stress? Or is something else up?

I know at the N.A.R.B.C show in Arlington the guy I purchased them from was keeping the girls awake to keep them active. Think they are just trying to recover from two days of little sleep?

I'm a new frog owner so obviously everything is freaking me out.

I'm a new frog owner too but I read these frogs may adapt to somewhat of a with sleeping and eating. Might take some time to re-adjusting.

Like I said im new so correct me at anytime.

It could take easily take them up to 30 days before settling in to their new home. Just leave them alone all the time and let them do what they have to do. A good idea is to cover 3 of 4 sides with tovels (or something else), to make them feel more secure. After 30 days or so, reveal more and more every day untill removing them completely.

    Congratulations on the new frogs

Maybe they are getting use to there new home. On top of that each frog can be different in there sleeping/eating habits. Even if both are female and of the same species. My frogs slept and hid alot the first few days I had them. Now the are awake every night and are croaking every day. Good luck with your frogs.

I would not worry. When I got my Red-Eyed Leaf Frog I put him in the quarintine tank and he slept for 8 days straight and then all the sudden he woke and was eating very aggressivly. On Sunday I moved him to his new digs and he has been sleeping since then. Just like MugPro said, they adjust to their new home by sleeping. Give it some time, they should come around.

I would also try to limit the time spent looking in to the tank until they have had time to adjust. The less they feel threatened the sooner they will come out!

i have two whites that we got at the same time. willow is always really active and awake more than oki. oki is just plain lazy. he is not ill, he eats fine, poops fine, he just really likes to sleep. even once the light has gone out it can be hours before he actually wakes up. willow will pose on her tree branch and b awake a lot earlier than oki. its just the way they are, they have different personalities. i wouldnt worry too much, not unless u notice otehr problems with feeding, mobility etc

I also bought 2 Red-Eyed Leaf Frog's at narbc Arlington but not from the same person as you (mine were left alone to sleep) and one wakes up within half an hour or so and the other takes a little longer. Every animal is different, but they should adjust well as long as you give them the right environment...temp, humidity etc

    Hi tydis,

'Sleeping in' is nothing to worry about. Stress? - well sure , they are tired and scared, if you will, from being moved around.
    Remember:
-they had to be moved from their enclosure
-then breeder had to transport them to the show
-then they spent hours in a tiny container- probably all chilly
-then they traveled again with you
    - and now they are home and need to rest

    They will come around.
Create a consistant day/night- light cycle and it will become very habit forming for them.
For now is is just best to leave them be. ( hard- right ! )

Follow the FF care sheet ! * especially temps and humidity
Reduce as much commotion as possible around the enclosure.
DO NOT handle them unless it is absolutely necessary!!!!!!
Continue to feed daily ( for now) just before lights out.
Remove uneaten food (daily) from the enclosure the following DAY -
Get in and out of the enclosure as quickly and quietly as possible
Put the crickets back in the cricket bin so the crickets can eat
Dust crickets w/ calcium and vitamins
Rinse/change the soaking dish daily with de-chlorinated or spring water
Provide high large leaf plants ( ie pothos) so they feel safe/ they will sleep on the leaves.
Prepare newly purchased plants properly before adding them to the enclosure.

I could go on and on.
This list could be a mile long !!! lol

Seriously, there is excellent info on FF care sheet.

Keep us posted ! Hope this helps !

Thanks for the helpful replies everyone.

To clarify I actually got Black Eyed Tree Frogs (From Michael Novy over at Rainforestjunkys), but I understand (correctly I hope!!) that the two species care is the same, it's impossible to find a care sheet for black eyed so I have taken to saying red eyed when online.

Lynn, yeah I have been preparing the vivarium since early July, and reading about the frogs for much longer than that.

When they are actually here though it's just so hard to leave them be!

When they are more settled in I'll try and snag a few pictures of them.
    Thanks again everyone.

Yes - the care is the same.
I have one black eye I am creating a new enclosure for. I have had HER since 11/2009.
I will be getting 2 more form Michael as well, as soon as it is warm enough to ship.
IF YOU DIDN'T BUY ALL THAT HE HAD!!!

What did you pay for them, If you don't mind I ask.
If you don't want to post it publicly- PM me ???? Only if you want to, of course ?

I'm sure I didn't buy all he had! (hopefully!!)

    And no I don't mind. I payed $50 each.

    Update:
One of the girls was moving around last night, she didn't eat anything but that is okay.

They must have eaten two nights ago though because I found poop today!

I'm pretty sure my vivarium is set up well, but it's always best to get mulitple opinions. Especially from the experts here!

    What do you guys think?

I really have no suggestions, I think it looks great! Plenty of hiding spots and some nice big leaves for them to hang out on.
