A thorough description of the care and breeding of the Red-Eyed Leaf Frog, Agalychnis callidryas, also known as the Red Eye Tree Frog, written by an expert who has not only kept them for years but also bred them on several occasions. |

| Re: Red-Eyed Leaf Frog/Red Eyed Tree Frog Care - Agalychnis callidryas Hi, I have a question, I am new to the forum, and new to owning Red Eyed tree frogs. I love my frogs, and they seem to be doing extremely well. But my question is, How do I go about cleaning the tank?? What type of cleaner do I use? I can't seem to find anything on the web that I would call reliable. The place where I were to of gotten my frogs told me just to use water, is that all I really have to do?? Another question is can I feed them anything aside from crickets? Will they do better on another food source?? Thank you Lindsey |

| Re: Red-Eyed Leaf Frog/Red Eyed Tree Frog Care - Agalychnis callidryas I clean the sides on my frog enclosures with a wet paper towel from time to time. I also spot clean just before I feed. So, any feces are scooped up and disposed of. If the tank gets really dirty, then the frogs are temporarily removed, the substrate tossed, and the cage cleaned with a bleach and water solution. It is then thoroughly rinsed and reset up with fresh substrate. |

| Re: Red-Eyed Leaf Frog/Red Eyed Tree Frog Care - Agalychnis callidryas Getting a definite female will be difficult at best. Mature frogs for sale are generally wild caught imports and males are more common amongst these imports, then the females are. How I got my female was to buy CB froglets and let them mature, hoping there would be females amongst them. Froglets usually mature in around a year. |

| Re: Red-Eyed Leaf Frog/Red Eyed Tree Frog Care - Agalychnis callidryas Hi,
I am not sure if this is where I am in need of posting this question....
I just got two red eyed tree frogs about 10-12 days ago.
One is a male and I think the other is a female. Well the one that I think is a female, I need help with. She is not active at all. She hasn't moved in like a couple of days. I woke her up last night to make sure that she was alive. The pet store told me to make sure that she was eating and take out the other frog and I did that but I do not know if she ate or not. Because I couldn't find the crickets that I were to of put in.... They may be in hiding or did she actually eat????
HELP!!!!
I love my frogs and got to hand pick them I dont want to loose her..... |

| Re: Red-Eyed Leaf Frog/Red Eyed Tree Frog Care - Agalychnis callidryas A standard quarantine period is usually 30 days. You can separate the two frogs to see if they are eating. Put her in a cage with no substrate or any places that a cricket can hide behind. Place in a bowl of water, because this frog can desiccate very quickly. Throw in some crickets before going to bed. The next day do a cricket head count or hopefully a poop count. |

| Re: Red-Eyed Leaf Frog/Red Eyed Tree Frog Care - Agalychnis callidryas Something appears to be irritating his skin. Has he been like this since you got him? How long have you had him? Are you using dechlorinated tap water? Is the frog housed alone or does it have roommates? I don't know my plants very well, its possible that the plant may be the cause? Then again, I am not a botanist, so hopefully someone else will chime in on this. |

| Re: Red-Eyed Leaf Frog/Red Eyed Tree Frog Care - Agalychnis callidryas I have 4 red eye tree frogs.
I want to know if there is a timer out there that actually analyzes the humidity level and turns on the fogger when it drops to a certain percentage?
Reason being, right now I'm using a normal timer from the pet store. I calculated how much my humidity drops within a given amount of time so that I know how I want to set my fog timer. But this is not a good method, because at the initial stage where I do my calculation, that calculation is based off the current humidity level of the outside world. So basically if the humidity were to drop here, the humidity level inside the frog tank will naturally fall faster than my initial calculation. So basically it makes the timer semi-useless.
Does anyone know of a product that turns on the timer only when necessary? I want to be able to tell it to activate only when the humidity falls under 80%.
any ideas? |

| Re: Red-Eyed Leaf Frog/Red Eyed Tree Frog Care - Agalychnis callidryas I know of no "thermostat" that will turn on a fogger when humidity drops. It may exist, but I have never seen anything like this. Personally I just mist frogs once a day, just before going to bed. It works for me. At them moment I have over 40 red-eyes. |

| Re: Red-Eyed Leaf Frog/Red Eyed Tree Frog Care - Agalychnis callidryas I'm very new to owning a red eyed tree frog and want to go about it the right way and have to learn the hard way. I feel I have everything set up correctly......except I don't understand what kind of lighting or heat to use? I have been on every web site and at the pet store and get all different kind of stories. Do you use a basking light for the heat? Because I can not get the temps in my tank up high enough to help with humidity?
Thank you,
Linda |
