I have a large pond and would like to add some Northern Leopard Frogs to it in May. I am interested in buying 15-20 mixed male/female frogs at a reasonable price. Please only respond if you live within 50 miles of the Lower Hudson Valley, New York area. I would prefer picking them up rather then having them shipped.
I look forward to your response.
Thank you.
Hawk
I hate to be a pessimist, but there are some problems with your plan.
Unless your pond is enclosed and 100% escape proof, your frogs (at least some of them) are going to leave. They then will have the opportunity to establish themselves as invasives or, if there are already Northern Leopards in the area, breed with the local population, resulting in genetic pollution. Allowing this is unethical, and probably illegal.
Leopard frogs are largely terrestrial for much of the summer, and wander great distances looking for food. A pond, by itself, is not the right habitat for them.
Lastly, New York has some rather restrictive herp laws. Many native species are protected; I'm not sure about Leopard frogs, but you should look into it.
