I picked up a pair of hairy wolverine frogs on the weekend. Fascinating animals. Here's some pics.

I didn't know they even sold those. Is it the kind of frog that can use its finger bones as weapons? They're also called Horror Frogs!

It sure is! They are very rare in the pet trade but they are occasionally available. I'm hoping to breed mine and produce the first captive bred horror frogs.

Hey man nice! You may want to read up on the natural history of them if you do want to attempt to breed them, I've heard/seen on documentaries that the male sticks behind and guards the eggs, but that could just be me remembering the wrong species, lol

Yes I have read as much information as there is. The males do guard they eggs as the hair on their legs provides oxygen for the eggs. I know they breed in rivers as well and from what I've observed they love to swim. I'll be moving them to a 40 gal breeder tank with a "river" and lots of dirt and moss for them to burrow in as they like to do that to. I haven't fed them yet but planning to tonight.

Cool, good to see some people doing research on how to breed them before trying their hand willy-nilly!

I know right? So many just buy on impulse or because it's cute. [emoji857]

Thanks for posting this! I just learned something new, didn't even know that these guys existed. Maybe I got to start reading and doing some research on more then just pacmans. L.O.L Its a very cool and interesting looking frog.

I'll post new pics once they are more settled, as they are rather frightened and jumpy! [emoji196]

This is my hand after receiving some scratches from my male tonight. It hurts a bit but as you can see it is very minor! It was interesting as not all the "claws" come out as once, each toe is broken individually so they can choose whether or not they want all claws or just one. The male seems very calm sometimes like when I was holding him but then tonight apparently wasn't in the greatest mood! Fascinating. [emoji4]
