Thread: Hello and please help ID my new frog

Default Hello and please help ID my new frog

Hi there! A bit about me: I'm a wife and mom of two school-aged kids. We have a black lab named Lucy, two hermit crabs named Snap and Tap, and now a new frog named Parkie (my son named him that because he said frogs do parkour).

Here's my problem: the guy at the pet store told me this was a monkey tree frog, so I did some research, provided him (or her) with a light/heat lamp, monitored the temp/humidity, etc.

But as I found this forum and other web sources, I noticed that none of the pictures of bright-green monkey tree frogs looked like my bluish-green Parkie. He looks more like maybe a whites tree frog, but I'm not sure. I figured if I posted pics you guys would be able to help me out. For now, I turned off the light/heat lamp and misted a bit in the terrarium in case I've been baking the poor thing this morning! I'll wait until he's ID'd before doing anything else.

Thanks in advance for the help!!

edit: ugh, I cannot figure how how to reduce the file size so I can upload a photo. It keeps saying "invalid file," even when I uploaded it to a hosting site and just tried to insert the link. It's just an iPhone photo, I don't know what the problem is! I will keep working on it and update as soon as I can.

in the meantime, it looks just like this one: http://www.backwaterreptiles.com/fro...-for-sale.html

Most of the people in petco are only there to make the company money, their caresheets are terrible. I'll do some frog searching on the internet and let you know. You should go back to the petstore and ask for a manager to identify what species of frog you really have, if you can't find it on the price tag it should be on the shipping logs.

I know, as soon as I started researching I realized I was told the wrong species. There was a big brown fellow in the tank at the store that looked just like the brown guy in your pic, so maybe that tank was labeled for monkey frogs and he didn't realize this one was different. I don't know, but I'm glad I figured it out so I can learn how to care for this cutie in the right way.

He really does look amazing, my girlfriend has fallen in love with him, haha. But yes, he does deserve a happy home!

Of course, it even validates your suspicions at the end of the video, You should order your supples at petmountain since they're super trust worthy, been ordering stuff for my tortoises since 2012, not one mixup. I would deff call up petco and talk to them about their mixup.

Hey, chiming in late, but wow, that could not be more a White's Tree Frog. I'm glad you figured it out in time to raise the humidity. These are pretty easy to care for(well, relative to other frogs, especially Monkey tree frogs.)

I'd probably go back to the pet store and ask the guy what he was thinking, but that's just me.

Thanks for the responses! The humidity is up to just over 60% now, and the temp is 82. He looks happy and is eating and pooping, so those are good signs. He spent a long time sitting on his water dish this morning and then climbed up to bask/sleep. He's super cute and a sweetie.
