Default American Toads or Fowler's Toads?

I caught two toads recently at a local park. One is brick red, with black/white mottled sides and a cream white belly. The other is colorless; gray and white. Sometimes black. Both have 3-4 bumps in each dark spot on their backs, and the bumps on their tibias seem a bit larger than the ones on the other parts on the leg. The cranial crests don't seem to touch the paratoid glands, but they also don't seem to be "L" shaped. They seem more like straight lines that come down but don't curve to the sides. Both are the same size--about 2-2 1/2 inches. I live in CT if that helps.

The lighter one is an American Toad

Thanks for the answer, Aaron! I figured as much. Anyone have any clue what the other could be? The dark one definitely has a more voracious appetite. The red one will be done eating after 3-4 crickets, but the dark one will keep eating and eating. She's even struck at my tweezers several times while I was moving things around/nudging a cricket.

They both look like Americans, but you can check the belly to be sure- american's bellies will be mottled, while fowler's bellies are white with a single dark patch near the throat. If you found them in a moist, wooded area, they're almost certainly Americans- fowlers like it dry and sandy.

Thank you! They were both found under a trash can, at a local park. It looked spacious under there, so something told me I should look under it. Sure enough, two toads! It was pretty dry under there, although it was a wooded area. They both have solid white bellies with only one dark patch near the throat.

Hmm, the bellies description sounds like fowler's, but their coloration screams american to me because I usually think of fowler's as paler and grayish colored. I forget what it is exactly, but they way to tell for sure has to do the number of warts in each patch on their backs, and the shape of the cranial ridges. They could be hybrids too.

I'm going with Fowler's for both or a possible hybrid. Neither one is pure eastern American.
