Hi there,
I'm new to this forum. Have had red eyed tree frogs for over 2 years (using paper towel as substrate). I just got some young milk frogs recently and am using paper towels as substrate at the moment as well. But later when they get older, I plan to use some more aesthetically pleasing substrate like frog soil.
My question is, do I have to use hydro balls or something underneath the soil? I won't be putting in real plants. Or is it fine that I just use soil and change it once per month?
Also, my frogs seem really scared in the big (30 gallon tank - exo terra PT2607) I just moved them in. I had been housing them in a small plastic box for a month before transferring them into it. Was it too soon for me to transfer them in the big tank? They are about 3.5-4cm already.
Thanks.

You might want to ask people in the "Vivariums" section about this, but if you're willing to change the dirt once a month it shouldn't matter too much that you don't have hydro balls or stuff. But I do recommend them, especially since digging up the dirt every month would hurt the plants.
I'll leave the second question to people who have experience with red-eyes.
Oh thanks. Yes, I saw that section in the forum after I posted.
My second question (about my frogs being scared) is actually regarding my milk frogs too. My red eyed tree frogs are very brave, have never been scared since the first day I got them. My milk frogs seemed less scared last night (they do continue to eat) but they seem to not be able to sleep (have not seen them sleep for like 4 days) and one of them likes to sit on the floor underneath a branch (kind of blends in with its black white pattern, maybe that's why).
