Default Just making sure, is this an american bullfrog

    Hi all,

I'm new here on the forum and have almost zero knowledge of frogs and toads. About a month ago, I set up a fish pond in the backyard with a little waterfall and 4 shubunkin fish. This morning, as I was going to feed them, I noticed a huge frog in the pond. It chilled there for a couple of hours and eventually got out of the water. I took a few pics to try and identify it. I believe it's an american bullfrog but I would like others to confirm. I have posted a link to pictures below. Also, out of curiosity, do these frogs typically eat small fish? I don't mind having him/her in my pond, but I definitely don't want to see fish slowly start missing... My fish are maybe 3 inches long. Btw, I live in Toronto, Canada

I'm pretty confident in saying that this is definitely an American bullfrog! In class I always learned to look at the lateral ridges (the lines on their heads) and how far back they go. On a Green frog, they should extend all the way to the pelvic-region, but on American bullfrogs they only go around the tympanic membrane (the circular spot on their heads).

Here is a site that explains it better with images! http://redandthepeanut.blogspot.com/...fferences.html

    Nice pics!
