Default Concrete mix for water area for frogs

    Hello...we have 2 leopard frogs (small about 1 1/4")
We will be setting up their new home and for the water area i was thinking about using concrete mix....i read that cement mix may need to be cured for a long time before is safe for animals but what if i paint it to look like real pond...and then put a good coat of 100% silicone? would this work?
Im trying to have a solid separation between water area and soil area.....less dirty water and easier to clean.
    Thanks for inputs

Unfortunately, that would not work. The concrete needs to be cured 100% before any animals can go into enclosure. Especially any animal that would contact the water that also contacts the concrete.

Concrete is made from mostly limestone. The limestone leeches out of the concrete until it cures, making the water extremely hard and alkaline. The curing process takes about 6 weeks, give or take with numerous flushes and water changes done to eliminate all foul materials before it becomes neutral.

Thanks DC....i thought that by covering all the cement with silicone the water would actually come in contact with the silicone and not with the concrete.

The liquid water would come into contact with the silicone, but water vapor gets EVERYWHERE inside a tank. You'd be surprised where it can get to. It's the vapor that would be the problem. Maybe not right away, but eventually, it would be an issue.

Full cure for hydraulic mortar is 6-8 weeks. I was going to experiment with trying to dye some drylock...
