It is a GABF, or to quote you "Full"

Thank you for the info, do you think it could possibly be a male due to the size of the head?

How can you tell it is Adspersus? I would think it would be too young to tell? I am curious because I am still trying to learn how to identify and sex these frogs Here is part of a post by PyxieBob from a while back describing the differences between the two:

    Pyxicephalus adspersus

    1. Upper jaw withour irregular vertical pale bars
    2. No white spot on tympanum (ear drum)
    3. No pale interorbital bar
    4. Distance from eye to tympanum is about twice the diameter of the eye

    Pyxicephalus edulis

    1. Upper jaw with irregular pale bars
    2. White spot on tympanum
    3. Distance from eye to tympanum is about the same as the diameter of the eye

The frog has a clearly defined interorbital bar (this is the line on top of the head connecting both eyes). This is a definitive characteristic of the dwarf ABF, since the "giant" does not have this feature. I am 99.9% sure that it is a dwarf pyxie (Pyxicephalus edulis).

This one also looks like Edulis to me though. I know I am not an expert on these frogs but this one seems to have the interorbital bar as well and has the white on the tympanum and the distance from the tympanum to the eye looks to be the same as the diameter of the eye...

Hey Sherry I've been noticing that to after bringing him/her home I noticed the interorbital bar as you've stated above. =/ I will love the Pixie the same but I was looking for a male GABF since I can't get them here in Saskatchewan I took a risk and well it didn't pan out to well. The good thing is I learned a lot from this though, now I just need a GABF hope I can get one somehow.

I have kept both the dwarf and the giant ABF. I prefer the dwarfs better, they are not as big but I like the coloration. They will make a great addition for any frog keeper. I think the popular name of these frogs is confusing hobbyists. In South African literature, the name African Bullfrog refers to the dwarf. It is also known as the edible bullfrog (edulis=edible. Some native peoples eat them). P. adspersus is the giant bullfrog (adspersus=scattered. Note the scattered white markings on the skin ridges). The vertebral stripe indicates that it is a juvenile. It will fade or disappear as the frog matures. Even though you are disappointed, I am sure you will appreciate the finer points of the dwarf ABF

I will agree Tgampper dwarf pixies are great, however I would love to have a male Pixie and since this post i've been looking very hard to find one. So this is the one I've actually found and he/she is currently in Newfoundland.. So I have to trust my gut and send money to get him here considering he is the hands of a local owner. I've got a few photos of him with the links below he/she looks like a Giant and I reallllllly hope it is a he haha.

I used to live in NewBrunswick but I'm living in Saskatchewan now, I sure hope Terry however I'm a bit nervous to do an E-Transfer with a local that is in another province... so I'm not sure how I should go about purchasing this from him.

If your closer to alberta then further I know they have huge reptile show comeing up in august in red deer. I know it could be drive and it would be a wait but at least you would get to see with your own eyes not a picture what you are getting. You could look it up and find out who will be there and maybe talk to some of vendors that will before hand to see if they will be bringing any GABF's with them also. Just thought I would throw that option out there if you were close.

No problem, if you want to google it and check it out its called The Western Canadian Reptile Show. Sounds like a good and pretty big expo.

I might be a little too late to reply here but both of the frogs are giants, ALL baby pyxies both giants and dwarves have one stripe from snout to vent but the giants have two more stripes on both sides from the ear to abdomen. It's very easy to tell the dwarves away from the giants just following this simple rule three stripes - giant, if not it's "just" a dwarf when you start to decide what it is just based on size etc. things can get a bit twisted.
and baby GABF's have a white spot on the eardrum too so that is really misleading aswell x)
