So my pixie, Pickle, hasn't been eating very much, maybe 2-4 large earth worms every few days. I tried to stretch the length between eating to see if that helps and it didn't seem to. People are always saying that these guys are voracious eaters and my guy just isn't... Unless there's a super worm in from of his face. I went to feed him about a month ago and when I opened his worms they were all dead. So since he was already out and in his food tub I figured I would throw in some supers so he would be able to eat something. I know these aren't too good for him so I only fed a few. Since then if I throw a Super in he will gobble it up and then go for his earthworms.
So, finally to my questions, do these guys go on hunger strikes like some other reptiles? Will he eventually go back to eating his earthworms if I withhold the treats?
Also, aside from earthworms what would be good to supplement them? Maybe he would like some variety? I assume Dubia roaches would be good for him?
Thanks everyone!
They all have individual food preferences, and will sometimes hold out for what they want. Make sure the earth worms you are feeding are night crawlers as the red wigglers can have a funny taste to your frog. I see you are in socal, if you need Dubias I have a big colony and can give a good price, send me a message if you are interested.
