    Exclamation Tomato Frog Eye Problem



    PROBLEM:
    One eye stays closed. the eye ball itself looks fine. the lid is simply closed and seems to twitch and looks a bit thick and a bit gray.

    HELP!

    1. Size of enclosure

    20 Gallon Long

    2. # of inhabitants - specifically other frogs and size differences

    1 Frog

    3. Humidity

    Not sure

    4. Temperature

    81 Day - 74 night

    5. Water - type - for both misting and soaking dish

    de-cholr water in a bowl.

    6. Materials used for substrate

    eco-earth coco earth

    7. Enclosure set up i.e. plants (live or artificial), wood, bark and other materials.

    Fake plant, smooth large stone.

    - How were things prepared prior to being put into the viv.
    8. Main food source

    Crickets.

    9. Vitamins and calcium? (how often)

    Dusted once a week (cal + d3)

    10. Lighting

    ambient

    11. What is being used to maintain the temperature of the enclosure

    Heat lamp

    12. When is the last time he/she ate

    2 days ago

    13. Have you found poop lately

    Yes.

    14. A pic would be helpful including frog and enclosure (any including cell phone pic is fine)

    None

    15. Describe frog's symptoms and/or recent physical changes; to include it's ventral/belly area.

    One eye closed. eye lid looks a bit gray and a bit thick. Actual eye looks normal.

    16. How old is the frog

    Not sure. I'd say a year and a half.

    17. How long have you owned him/her

    3 weeks.

    18. Is the frog wild caught or captive bred

    No idea

    19. Frog food- how often and if it is diverse, what other feeders are used as treats

    12-15 crickets every 3rd day. horn worm every week if it will take it.

    20. How often the frog is handled

    Rarely

    21. Is the enclosure kept in a high or low traffic area

    Low

    22. Describe enclosure maintenance (water changes, cleaning, etc)


    water change every day. soil mixed and misted every day.

    The more i think of it, maybe its an irritant that's gotten under the eyelid. Maybe the eco-earth. How do I wash it out... hmmm.

    Need to take frog to a herp vet. Eye issue could be mechanical or caused by a bacteria. Can you post pics of eyes? What is your location? Maybe someone can recommend vet in your area.
    Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !​
