    Angry Paludarium filtration

Hi guys i have a 75 Gallon tank that i've been planning on making into a Paludarium for Red eyed Tree frogs and maybe some tetras, unfortunately i can't figure out a way to properly filter it. I originally intended to use an aqua clear 70 but priming it and getting water suction was nearly
impossible so i bought a 264 GPH canister filter and surprisingly i still have the same problem. Is there anything i can do, maybe buy an in-tank filter or drill a hole on the side of the tank?! I'm considering leaving the whole frog idea
and getting a boring planted tank instead.

Here's a current pic of the tank

How deep is your water and how many gallons of water? I am using a Tetra repto-filter waterfall. I believe it will filter up to 55 gallons. It has a minimum water line about 4 inches I think. I got it on Amazon.

I wanted the water height at 6 1/3 inches but I'm unsure if it gives the tree frogs enough room to drown in (which I doubt). I think at least 10 gallons for the fish to be happy. My tank dimensions are 48"L 15"W 24"H if interested

    Default Paludarium filtration

Obviously, a hang on back filter won't work with this application. Canisters do work, but they take a lot of creativity and patience to prime, but it can be done. If you are using a false bottom, you can definitely hide a submersible filter under the false bottom. Another option is drilling the tank. There are several ways you can set the tank up if you are drilling it, depending on what filter you want to use. Drilling it just above you water line allows your intake to be lower in the tank, making the filter easier to prime. Drilling lower than your water line makes priming the pump much easier, but requires the use of a bulkhead and a little custom plumbing. The bottom of a 75 cannot be drilled due to them normally being tempered glass.

Hope that helps a little bit.
