I'm going to upgrade my frogs 10 gallon 'fish tank' enclosure, and was wondering if the Exo Terra 12x12x18 rainforest kit is a good upgrade? Or should I save up for the 18x18x24?
I would definitely go for the larger enclosure. Your white's will thank you for it. The 12x12x18 is only about 11 gallons and therefore not much of an upgrade.
OK, that's kind of what I was thinking. The 12x12x18 is taller than what I have, though. So was also thinking maybe the 18x18x24 was not entirely necessary...
Thanks for your input.
What is the size of your frog now? If it's still a juvie, the smaller tank will suffice for the time being; but it will quickly outgrow it. Plus, at about 33 gallons, the 18x18x24 would be able to accommodate another White's if this one gets lonely...
The frog is about 2 1/2 inches. And I don't know if it's his/her personality, but he really doesn't do a whole lot, that we can tell. We've never seen him climb on the branches we have for him...
His color is good, and he does eat. Temp and humidity good. So I thought he really needs more vertical space. He's in an old 10 gallon tank we used for fish years ago, not a lot of vertical space in it.
We've only had the frog for about 1 1/2 weeks.
And you think he'll get lonely? We were told by the pet store, he'd be fine alone. But, a lot the pet sore told us was not the best info...
Most tree frogs are strictly nocturnal, so they only come alive when the lights go out. If you've been watching him in the daytime, all you'll see is a green lump. But White's move around quite a bit at night (at least mine did). So yes, vertical space would certainly be appreciated. If you really don't have enough for the bigger exoterra, there are other options. You could get a vertical conversion for your 10 gallon, either getting the parts from a hardware store or purchasing a kit. You can also pick up a larger tank, say a 20 gallon high (I've had a lot of luck with craigslist), and doing a vertical conversion on it.
No I don't think he'll get lonely =) But rather what I meant was, if you decide to get him a friend later on, the bigger exoterra tank will be able to support two adult White's comfortably.
Great, thanks so much for the info! I hadn't thought of Craigslist.
