Default Light Green Spots on Red Eyed Tree Frog

We just bought this little guy about 5 days ago, and this morning I woke up and he had these green spots all over him. He didn't have them yesterday. The temp in the tank in on average 25 to 27 degrees and I keep the humidity up with a spray bottle, misting 3 times a day. Right now we are using fake plants, using moss and soil on the floor, he has a waterfall and a water(bottled spring water) dish that I change everyday. I will be switching to tap water that has been conditioned very soon. I have a 75w night glo bulb that is used to heat the tank as well as a heat pad underneath. He doesn't have much daylight as I live in a basement apartment. I have been following all the guidelines to a T. Just wondering if there is anything I can do. I have read some previous posts on here and am a little worried about him. As one girls frog died after she found spots similar to this... I have posted a picture that I took this morning.

I would keep an eye on him the next few days. Monitor his behavior. Never had a red eye but many frogs get spots from time to time so it may be nothing. Also I'd put the heat mat on the side of the tank as it really is serving no purpose being on the bottom under the soil/moss.

I would guess this is more related to stress.

I would suggest the following to help reduce stress:
Cover three sides of the tank and remove any night lighting.
Ensure water is either chlorine free (bottled spring) or treated tap water.
Limit the times you enter the tank to only when changing water and adding or removing crickets.
Provide enough natural accents to allow for hiding, climbing, and perching above the substrate. Since your frog lives in trees, they are rarely found on the substrate and prefer to move from leaf to vine to branch to explore the tank.
Slowly remove covered sides over a few weeks to let them become accustomed to their surroundings.
Ensure the crickets provided are no longer than the width between the frogs eyes.
Monitor the frogs activity and weight. If your frog moves around at night in the dark and soaks or sits at the water dish edge, then he/she is probably doing fine.

You can also feed with a cricket bowl to keep track of how he/she is eating.

IF these are the "neon" green spots it is a bacterial infection and will not go away on its own. Your frog must be treated immediately or it will not survive. I think the common medication is Baytril to treat this infection. If I were you I would send a photo of the frog to Dr.Frye.dvm@sbcglobal.net and explain the condition to him. He can also be reached at (734)439-2273. He can send you medication to treat the frog. THis is usually a sign that the humidity is too high or that there is not enought ventilation. I would lower the humidity level to 50% right away and make sure the screen on top is at least half uncovered. You don't have much time..as soon as the frog starts to show the neon green spots they usually die within a week or two at most. Act quickly.

Bshmerlie is right. Get in contact with Dr. Frye immediately. He'll send you a bottle of prediluted Baytril with enough in it for weeks of treatments for numerous frogs.
This happened to a couple of mine too... only I didn't get it in time. My frog died after 2 weeks, and honestly, I'm still amazed it made it that long.
More info can be found by searching "sick red eyed tree frog".

My WTF had/has this infection. His spots looked exactly as your frog's do. It has been a long hard battle. I contacted Dr. Frye to ask questions regarding proper doseage of Baytril but he never answered. I guess because I wasn't asking to buy anything. I have finally had success using a combo of Baytril and Metronidozole. I have kept my frog alive by very aggressive supportive care. Pedialyte soaks and syringe feeding with Repta boost. Yesterday I awoke to an emerald green frog. He has been dirt brown (save the green spots) for months. He caught and ate his first live cricket in months also. So, my advice.... get a hospital tank set up pronto. One you can clean and sanitize easily. Get him on the proper meds ASAP. If he is not eating, supportive care. Pedialyte soaks. Syringe feeding is super stressful for your frog, and I wouldn't do it unless you HAVE to. Good luck.

Thanks Heather! Your advice regarding the soaks and the repta-boost were invaluable. I don't think he would have made it without the supportive care while I figured out the correct med dosages. He ate 3 live crickets today, and is a beautiful blue/green.
