this is my setup if it needs work let me know ...
tank - 20 gallon long
temp - 80/85
humidity level - 70/75
over the water bowl is a sun glo 50W tight beam, the screen top is wraped in clear wrap from the bulb over being 75% of the top.
i had the light over the land side but it was drying up the soil and the water would get very cold. now the water is warm and i mist the land side to keep it moist..
if this is all wrong please tell me i want my frog to live. just keep in mind i live in jersey and love the cold so my apt is mostly cold...
thanks again
I think it should be fine.my 4-5 in. pyxie lives in a similar cage. it is the same only not as large. I will upgrade mine to a bigger cage as needed.
I live in a desert climate, and have no heat on any of my three Pyxie tanks. Even when the temps drop in the winter, I allow my Pyxies that time to semi-hibernate. I have yet to have a problem with doing this.
I think it should be okay – but what about some nice plants and perhaps a girlfriend to your frog?
Wouldn’t you be a little bored if you were in his place?
Usually, you're supposed to keep the water cooler (so they can cool down!), but if it's drying out rapidly, I believe you're doing alright! Will you be upgrading your tank? As your pixie gets bigger, a 20 gallon tank will be a bit uncomfortable for him/her (although most places say a 10-20 gallon tank will suffice). Once your pixie reaches about 8 months, especially if male, you should have at least a 40 gallon tank with 2/3 water to keep him/her happy. Your temps are good, but for night time they should drop about 5-10 degrees, and about a 5% drop in humidity as well. Be sure to replace/clean the water regularly with "stale" water!
