Default my white's setup ... is it right?

    hello everyone,

about to order my equipment for a white's tree, just making sure I haven't forgotten anything or if the products I've bought are the correct ones.

I'm keeping a juvenile in a 12x12x18 until he outgrows it.

    I currently have:

a critter keeper (for transport and while I'm cleaning the cage)

Daytime Heat Bulb 40W (Exo Terra)

    UVB 2.0 globe

    thermometer and hygrometer

    a food and water dish

    tongs

a ground hide and an arboreal hide

a ton of fake plants, vines and branches

a drainage layer + drainage substrate

    a dechlorinator

    a glass and decoration cleaner

I'm not 100% sure about the 'Daylight heat bulb' Did I choose the correct bulb and wattage for a terrarium of this size?

Also, do I need an automatic misting system? Or can I just use a hand mister?

    thanks, Matt

Glad to see how much you care! that size will do for a juvenile, just be sure to upgrade in the future. The bulb should be okay. Make sure you get it working and positioned right before the frog comes home. You shouldn't need uvb, but it's fine to have. Everything else sounds good. A hand mister is fine. You also may want to look into the quarantine process, I'm no pro at this as when I got my frogs It was a bit of an impulse buy...(don't do this btw) I just put them straight in the cage. Hope I helped, don't take my word for it though, do your research, talk to people and ask questions on the forum! Good luck!

You will want to monitor the temp ( for several days first ) to maintain it w/in the proper range.

Make sure your hygrometer is a quality digital one. The dial type analog ones are notorious for being inaccurate.

The uvb is not needed. But a quarantine space will be. This could be something as simple as a Tupperware container with holes in it and paper towel substrate, as well as a water bowl and some plants (fake or real, doesn't matter) for the frog to climb/hide in.

Agree with the others. You will want to setup the tank ahead of time and make sure you can maintain the required heat and humidity before you put the frog in and stress it out while you dial the tank in. The Hides will be unnecessary and will most likely never be used.

Make sure you can maintain the temperature over night, you may need to think of other ways to heat the tank. The daytime heat bulb will dry the air in the tank out quickly which will mean you need to mist more often which will mean you need to drain the water from the drainage layer more often. You could look into heating the tank using a ceramic heat emitter. They produce zero light and can be used to heat the tank 24/7 while also producing a radiant heat that does not cook the humidity out of the air. I would also recommend looking into an LED light (Aquatraders - Guaranteed Best Prices on Aquarium Lightings + Free Shipping!) they produce little heat and will help keep the humidity in the air (because they won't cook it out).

Just a few thing I have learned from experience. Better to adjust your list now than to be buying things in a pinch.

By the way - Nicely done planning in advance before you actually get the frog. That is the best way possible to do this!

Martha in her cocohut. I leave it out at night so she'll come out, then put it back every morning and like clock work she climbs into it and goes to sleep for the day.
