I'm thinking of how to keep the temp. up in the winter for ceratophrys tanks. The day time temp will be fine because the light will keep it above 75 and i'm switching to glass lids soon for better humidity. But i'm worried for the night time temp. My house shouldn't get lower then 67. Will a heat mat on the side of the tank keep it at 70 during the night? Should i run the light during the day and heat mat at night?
I use a heat mat on the bottom of my tank and it keeps the temps fine during the day so a heat mat on the side should work for you. I don't use any heating at night since my room is pretty warm. Depending on the temp during the day you may want to use both the lamp and heat mat since they like it around 80ish.
67 is too cold. These frogs should be kept above 70 (pref 75-85) at all times. I agree on the heat mat. I prefer those to heat lamps.

I'll have to use both because i can't run either of them for 24 hours. I'll have the heat lamp on for 12 hours and a heat mat on the back of the tank on for 12 hours at night. I have a baby ceratophrys ornata in a 10 gallon and i'm going to find something to divide the tank and keep a baby ceratophrys cranwelli on the other side and ill put the heat mat on the back of the tank.
