Default Red Eyed Treefrog water system ideas???

I have 4 red eyed treefrogs that are currently living quite happily in an a tank with a central water dish (and three living plants + 2 fake ones) but i wanted to upgrade to a larger water resource my idea was to bury a large container in the substrate so the water was level with the ground, than add gravel (so the frogs could sit in it) and a filter. Please!! Notify me about any flaws in my idea or give any of your Ideas because im open to suggestions

    Thanks

It could work out alright. Just make sure the water is not too deep so you don't risk the frogs drowning.

Just keep in mind that you will have to change the water so you probably want to have a plan for water changes.

I use a small hose with a screen over the end to siphon off a gravel pond.

Although water features look cool nothing beats a water bowl you can clean out everyday. My Red Eyes poop in the water bowl almost every time plus I'm sure they are peeing in it too. The water bowl feels slimy the next day. There's no way, even with a filter, that a water feature wont build up waste pretty quickly. I have a water feature in my tank but I also have a couple of water bowls that they soak in and I clean those out every morning. That way the water feature stays pretty clean.

    Bshmerlie,

My RETF does the same. She doesn't really use the pond or waterfall so it stays pretty clear. She uses her water bowl or "goes" close to it. Like she's nearly potty trained .

My toad used to do the same thing. He'd soak, then "go", and then I'd clean it for him. It was very easy.

I made my pond in the terrarium the frogs just love it!!! and Theres room for all them to sit in it and with the gravel i made a large shallow area. I too had a water dish before this but the reason i wanted to upgrade it is because the dish was quite crowded at night. If you would like see pictures i can get them up just ask

    thanks for the great comments

Remember, tho, that clear doesnt always equal clean. The water still needs to be changed regularly, although a potty trained frog would be pretty cool. Like Jinxy the cat from Meet the Parents

    Lol!
This is true. Water changes are still a must. The nitrates in the water can still be too high even when they are not visible. And even solid waste particles will be hiding in-between the rocks, which is even more obvious when the water is siphoned out.

If you've ever had fish you might have even had to test the water ph.

I use a small-medium food storage tub filled with water and a few fake decorations in it, no filter but I use a very small pump to create a small fountain (just a water stream, nothing fancy). It's sort of half-buried so it's really easy to take out and change which I do every single afternoon. The rocks/etc I just dump into a strainer and rinse when I change the water, it's pretty simple but I think it looks nicer than a place old dish.

i just built a poludarium. water on one side, land on the other. i use a submersible filter. i never see my frogs near the water, so it must be humid enough for their liking! Nice tank, by the way!
